Netgear WNDR 3700

[link to this post]

Hello,

Well, where to start.

First of all this is my first post so hey all, and secondly I'm very much enjoying the 50 Mbit speeds on the XXL we have here.

My only gripe is, due to the location of the modem and router in this house, wireless is the only viable option currently.

I have purchased the Netgear WNDR 3700 after a Belkin and Netgear (~60 quid range) kept dropping our connections randomly.

The D Link DIR 615 that VM gave us was terrible, so I remapped it to use DD WRT firmware, which is performing ok, it doesn't drop but only gives us a "fairly good" signal.

I purchased the 3700 in hope we could have consistent performance, and when it works we're achieving 45-50 Mbit wirelessly without issue.

However it is still randomly dropping out my girlfriends laptop. I have tried everything I can think of and still the only thing that works consistently is the D Link.

I am going to be forced to send back this 150 quid router and keep using a D Link with DD WRT on it if I can't find any answers. 150 quid is just too much to leave in the drawer.

I am hoping someone here has some clue as to how to set it up to work consistently.

We can't access the routers config when it drops so it's defo a wireless issue, my question is why does it work most of the time and just randomly drop us out?

I've MTU set to 1500 etc, I just don't get it.

Any light someone can shed is MUCH appreciated, thanks in advanced.

Lee.

try using channels 11 and 3 and 6 in that order, stay away from channel 1.

if possible increase wireless transit power on the router.

I'd steer clear of channel 3 too.

Why not run InSSIDer and actually find out what wireless channels are being used in your vicinity and at what strength?

And if your router doesn't automatically change channel to the least congested, do it yourself...
