Broadband medic

[link to this post]

now I'm a Mac User but I have had to keep the PC Lappy for people who do need Windows frown

Tell me about Broadband Medic please - the PC has AVG [ up to date] and also XP's Firewall and it's is also behind the Router.

Do we need this Broadband medic - thingy whatever it is ? It seems to be in the Start up tray.

I have a friend who using Logmein is keeping this lappy under control for me All M$S updates have just been done

OK folks - don't all rush at once to answer me .

As a Macuser I couldn't use this prog that NTL/Virgin produced . I didn't even know my husband had put it on his lappy - but I need to know about it as I suspect it will clash with stuff that we have put on the lappy .

PLease tell me what is in Broadband Medic

In a nutshell, if you are connecting thro' a router, you never need any extra s/w on your PC and you never need to install the ISP's CD. All the setting up can be done directly on the router.

Like I said - we didn't know this was on the PC Lappy , and my husband had always used Avast as an AV - this was only changed to AVG by my daughter because she needed to sign on her work account and there was a problem with Avast that day so Avast was dug out and AVG installed.

I did say that Broadband medic was elderly - it was prior to Virgin Media and was as far as I am aware never on offer to BlueYonder.

I needed to know if we could safely dig Broadband medic out - I have no idea what was in it - and still don't , and it's not going to be easy finding its component bits when we don't KNOW what is in it.

umm Lappies being portable are not always connected behind a Router - so things like AV , Firewall etc etc ARE needed and must be on the machine even when it's in its base and connected through the Router

I never said AV, Firewall are not needed; just the bloatware you get from your ISP. Something called "Broadband medic" is hardly gonna be much help in Coffee Republic.

@OP: Have you done a Web Search? You would find it's something from NTLWorld; see: http://www.virginmedia.com/helpsupport/broadbandmedi... . You don't need it.

OH dear - my original post made it clear I knew it was from NTLWorld days - I just wanted to know what was in it - and believe it or not I do know how to use Google .

This darn thing will be removed as soon as we can do it
