Thinking of moving to VirginMedia

[link to this post]

I am currently with TalkTalk, and I have had it with the headache of their internet being very unstable lately. I was wondering, does anyone know how much, I'll need to pay to close the line?

Also I was thinking of getting 20mb, with basic TV and Unlimited Phone Line.
Anyone know any promotion code or something, which can make it cheaper?

Thanks

If you are out of contract with TalkTalk it costs nothing to leave.

All that happens is your BT line gets effectively cut off and you get everything via a new cable which Virgin Install.

Also, if you want to keep the costs down I'd think about the 10 meg option. At the end of the day the 10 / 20 meg products use the same technology - when I had 20 meg I saw speeds of around 9 meg during peak times.

I changed to the 10 meg product, saved money and still see 9 meg during peak times.

Both are unlimited too.

The 50 meg product uses different technology and is in may respects superior, however a lot more pricy.

10 meg isn't bad in all honesty. Give it a go, if you feel the need for quicker you can always call VM and upgrade.

Anyway you can probably find cheaper broadband options via your BT line. Can you post up your current router statistics on talktalk - this way we can best advise?

Also can you fill out this form http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker

Post back what it says under "The following services are available in your location"

e.g.

The following services are available in your location:

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Tiscali LLU
Tiscali TV (via Tiscali LLU)
Virgin Media (Cable)

Can you also click onto locality, it gives a distance straight line to the exchange - let us know this too please.

Right now I get 4mb due to my distance. I am just within the radius of my exchange. The speed, I do not blame TalkTalk. What I blame them is the unstable line. It has been dropping a lot, especially during peak time.
Even 10MB would be 2.5x times faster than I am getting right now. So I think I may try that and see how it goes.
BTW do you know the cancellation period during which I won't be charged?

Thanks

Sorry, close this thread, thanks to ukhardy07 I found out, my exchange will be getting FTTC soon. I think I will wait until that is live and then see if I can get it.

If you use wireless, get an N rated router as I found a massive difference when I bought my Belkin cable router. I get 15 Mb/s plus on my 20 Mb line and that;s on wireless.
