VM Cable - experiences from users in Andover, Hants.

[link to this post]

H all,

Just wanted to ask for users opinions of the cable service received in Andover, Hants (SP10) area. I am thinking about leaving ADSL as I can only sync and connect at 3Mb > now at 1.5Mbps.

50Mb would be great if the speeds stay fairly consistant, failing that I will consider the other speeds which are still a mass improvement over my ADSL, on paper anyway.

Hello,
I live in Andover and have two friends in Charlton who are on VM cable 20mb, both have great pings and stable speeds which are close to 20 meg.
I only get 4meg on Sky Unlimited and am looking to jump ship too! Have you noticed all the new green BT boxes around town? These are for fiber to the cabinet so you might want to wait a couple of months before signing up to a 12 month VM contract wink

Thanks Gazzer. No I have not noticed any new street cabinets built.

That was my next question - when are we going to see the new improved ADSL speeds that were announced last year for our area amongst others? And would we need to change our ISP to BT to reap the benefits?

Well according to Samknows it is the 1st of September (the fibers are all laid and I have seen Open Reach installing equipment in the new cabinets recently).

There are ISP's which will resell the BT product (BT Infinity), I'm currently with Sky and they are trailing connections on FTTC along with quite a few ISP's.

I can remember being well chuffed with a 512k connection, how things change!

I'd certainly recommend FTTC if you have the option - jumping from a 4.5Mb downstream and 0.5Mb upstream to approx 34Mb/10Mb+ speed makes a huge difference! smile
