what's Virgin up to ?
OK I'm on up to 10Meg through the free upgrades from waaaaaaay past.
Upload has always been 0.4
UNTIL this week
and now I suddenly realised that my upload has changed to 1GB !! How did this happen ? Checking back my tests this seems to have started on Monday . Oh it's not the TBB tester playing up - I also checked with Speedtest.net

I'm 99% sure you mean 1Mbps.
They are trialling better uploads right now - presumably in response to competition from BT Infinity. Rumour had it that all products will be upgraded to upstream at 10% of downstream.
The chances are that you'll go back to what it was after a while as they haven't made any announcement yet.
If you can't fix it with a hammer you've got an electrical problem.

Oh well - I knew this was too good to be true

the have stated the upgrades will take place during 4th Q of 2010. To be honest will u with some of the areas needing a lot of upgrading to cope with this and major investment i cant see it being finished until 1st - 2nd Q of 2011.

It may be a major investment but it's one that's long overdue and one that will cost them business if they don't make it. Many people need faster upstream far more than faster downstream and in any event the current maximum upstream could well be insufficient to support the new 100Mbps downstream product (already mentioned as XXXL on the upgrade page)

well the proposed time frame is just 6 months, that seems a very low amount of time considering some areas need multiple reseg's to handle this.
if the upgrade happens in my area and congestion is also relieved I will hold my hand up and say well done, until then I remain cautious.

If the posts are correct and Virgin moves to a 10:1 ratio between downstream and upstream speeds, only the 100Mb package will competitive vs. FTTC for those of us that place a high priority on upload speed.
If BT introduces the faster FTTC service (up to 60Mb downstream / 15Mb upstream) then even the 100Mb / 10Mb cable package will not look overly attractive from an upstream perspective.

I believe the statement was that they would start then. Per previous blog post my area won't be seeing any love until Q1 financial / Q2 calendar of 2011 at the earliest.

Not sure if I saw it here or another board but I checked it and found it was correct - go to My VM and click the I want to upgrade - one or two pages on it mentions XXXL 100Mbps is coming soon.
