Could I have a faulty service/Modem?

[link to this post]

Afternoon all smile

This has been bugging me for a while now. I can get 1.7mbps ONLY when I am downloading. I've tried FTP HTTP Upload and speed test. Nothing can get above 1mbps and it also takes a while to actually start.

Here is a speed test. Although I don't download much anymore now blown away the speed is still top notch. My only concern is that I will miss out on the new uplaod speed if there is a problem somewhere.

http://yfrog.com/c8speedtestyj Please note the upload that DUNMeter is showing. And this happens on multiple machines. I am currently wired.

Here are the modem stats which to me look normal?

Thanks.

Download is showing 50Meg, is it the upload that you are complaining about?

Modem seems to suggest a 1.7Mbps upstream maximum, which if I recall was/is normal on the 50Meg product, i.e. the 5Meg upgrade is still rolling out.

What are you expecting?

HI Andrew,

Not a complaint. More than happy with the service. Just wondered why my upload used to max out now it struggles to get above 1mbps. Is that just network load?

If it's my equipment I wouldn't get the 5mbps either? I know it's up to but VM have always been spot on the mark with uploads.

The upstream always shows signs of congestion first in cable areas, as the design of DOCSIS means it will always be sequeezed.

Trick is to see how it behaves over a 24 hour period, if good at 1am to 8am, then you are probably talking of congestion from people uploading stuff

You need to leave it until it finishes, not take a screenshot whilst it's running as everytime I run that same speed test it'd show about half the upload speed if I stopped it that quickly

That's not the stats, that's the operational config. You need to post the upstream stats,

Stats look fine.

What does the speedtest look like when it's completely run.

Okay so it's 1:46 as I type this. Just did a speed test.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/1003270904.png

When I an downloading fully I get 1.1mbps.The screen grab I did was too small to copy

Your tester is pretty much the same.

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results/id/1...

Used Plusnets direct one too.

http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/results/57047131.png AGAIN 1.1mbps on the upload on DUN meter.

I'm going to call them tommorow again see what they think.
