Has anyone one else noticed the speed has increased? The superhub is now connecting at 11000000 bps. I am getting 1 MB a second more than before, not bad!

That this was going to happen is well known about, and is to ensure VM can market at 100 Mbps, ie. cunning plan to ensure the 10% will get the speed we market at.
Heaven forbid that any provider will ensure that anyone's line being tested for this condition would be given favourable treatment.

Yea getting slightly higher here for the time of day..

Though this is tested through triple firewalls and active av,i usually get slightly higher later on at night and with security disabled..
Could anyone with a couple of min to spare, could they give me a quick explanation why firewalls and av security slow your connection down slightly ?..
is it the real time file system protection on my av suite ?
i am using eset smart security suite 5.
cheers guys

Three software firewalls are going to conflict with each other. Router + Windows Firewall = job done.
|
|
|
That really depends on how you have the firewalls configured tbh..
i have windows firewall + router firewall and eset firewall.. i have tested them all with various configs and rules applied and i feel i have a set up now with no conflict at all.

it also helps to bump up the averages on the samknows tests. As uncongested lines running higher than 100mbit will mask results from congested lines to a degree.

nice app will try it.
currently am using using windows 7 firewall control, which itself is somewhat buggy. Works in the same way a front end for the built in windows firewall.

Some AV systems result in causing spiky plots of data from a connection. tbbmeter in TCP/UDP monitoring mode can show this, particularly if you run it at high sample speeds, rather than its standard 1 second sample.
This is how sometimes some testers give a speed above the actual connections maximum possible speed, or in the case of Kaspersky some versions were consistently double the speed.

Thanks for the link
tbh it's not really about what 'i feel' i need if you no what i mean...it's simply making sure my back is covered.simple as that..
my eset firewall gives me that added protection regarding inbound and outbound connections.

Software can only do so much. Modern malware defeats most of it in a couple of seconds. Correcting human behaviour is the only real solution.

Thanks for the reply Andrew.
I actually find that my active security suite slows my connection down slightly as i mentioned before and i also found in the past that other av software had the same effect, some more than others.for example when doing download speed tests using Avira av it could slow down my connection by as much as 50%.
this had me thinking and in my opinion most if not all people that do speedtests will probably still have their current av running at the time of the test,so that in turn will give them false results to what their actual connection is running at ..
it could explain why a lot of people don't think they are getting what they are paying for, when in reality if all firewalls and av software suits were disabled the results could be much closer to the actual product they bought..
disclaimer: i am not suggesting anyone reading this should disable the security software they have installed

i agree 100% with you there... modern Malware succeeds mainly because of the amount of naive users...malware just exploits this..
