I've just logged into myvirginmedia and I now have a green box stating the following:
You're up and running on one of our new double speed packages
My speedtests still indicate that my package is still 30MB.
Am I reading this wrong??

I have a green box stating the following.
"We've started boosting our customers' broadband speeds around the country. Got any questions about when your area's getting upgraded or how it will affect your broadband?
Find out more"
I then click on "Find out more" and I get told.
"Your old speed is 30MB
Your new speed is 60mb"
so which IS it?
Also my predicted date has gone from a specific October 2012 when they 1st announce the upgrade ... to a more vague "October 2012 - July 2013"
Nice. :/

Either VM have cocked up again with info about doubling, or maybe you need to reboot your modem.
The former seems more likely. If it were me I'd log into the superhub (you may or may not have one of those) and check the service provision, that will be more accurate. A speed test might not show you're doubled if you're in a oversubbed area maybe.

Reboot the modem to force the connection to the new rate.

Tried a reboot of the modem (superhub) but still have the same Upload/Download. Must be a red herring on Virginmedia web page then!

An error on the Virgin Media website??? Gasp - surely not?

I have the same thing too.
The detail on your 'Myvirginmedia' page is just informing what it's going to be when they upgrade you at some point in the future.

Update:
I have just run some speed tests and these show that I get 100Mbps download if I am directly connected to the Superhub.
Still on 5Mbps upload. Any Ideas if/when this will be upgraded?
I know there are plans to increase the download to 120Mbps once they have rolled out the first part of the upgrade in my area.

Having read the gumph, I think the uplift to 120 Mbps is only for customers already on 100Mbps.

Nah, people who are uplifted from 50Mb to 100Mb will go to 120Mb. The two tiers have been merged.
People who take 100Mb now or get an early upgrade from 50Mb to 100Mb will have 5Mb upload until their areas have upstream bonding. The 100Mb -> 120Mb upgrades begin in the summer.
Some customers will jump straight from 50Mb to 120Mb.

It seems that the double-speed package is, for the lower 10 Mbps download rate, to turn into treble-speed!
(For the cynics, read the comment:
Details are correct
Virgin doesn't appear to have updated its website yet, but the story is correct. The new packages will launch in April.

interesting.......... when i go to myvirgin media it states the following... (and thats not 30mb but 20mb!)
Your broadband speed boost
Your broadband is already pretty fast, but we know you'll need more in the future. Over the next 18 months we're going to be doubling your broadband speed, giving you and your family the freedom to stream HD movies and download music, films and games faster and more easily than ever before.
Here's what you're on now and what you'll get after you've been upgraded:
Your current speed is up to 10Mb
Your new speed is up to 20Mb
With over 4 million customers to upgrade, it's not going to happen overnight. Our engineers are already at work around the country upgrading the network, area by area.
Find out when your area is due to be upgraded. Check my area
Do I need to do anything now?
No, there's nothing to do right now and no need to contact us. We'll let you know as soon as there's any news about your upgrade.
Some people may need a new modem to make the most of the upgraded broadband speeds. If you're one of them we'll be in touch, so keep your eyes peeled for letters and emails from us.
