How do I make my machine CONNECTABLE to private BT sites?

I am using the [infamous?] Superhub, and it turns out my machine is unconnectable to a private bittorrent site that I am a member of.

This happened after I started using VM, I was not aware of the problem until I got banned for not seeding sufficiently. I was seeding, but the machine was not connectible after I started using Virgin Media.

Is anyone familiar with this problem and knows what's causing it and how to fix it?

I started by turning off the firewall on the Superhub but that made no difference.

I went into the Admin interface to add Port forwarding.

The port I am using is 62,400

I added
Port Range 62,000 - 63,000
TCP & UDP
IP Address 192.168.0.4

The port is opened in the Windows 8 Firewall.

Host is up (0.090s latency).

But still when I go to a port forwarding checking site, to check the connectivity of the machine on the Port Range 62,000 - 63,000,I get the following mesesage:

All 13001 scanned ports on no-revers-dns.set (89.248.172.148) are closed

What am I missing?

How In the torrent client config, there should be the port number you can change this to a different number if you wish as long as it isn't also used by another programe ect, But the same port number has to be fowarded in the routers firewall config, for outgoing conectivity , there is a free tool that you can download and check to see if the port is open guides and the download link for the software are Here PF port checker

Thanks! To the best of my knowledge, I've already done this. I am concerned that the modem has been modified so it doesn't work (many people seem very unhappy with the firmware that Virgin put on this router).

Alternatively there is also a chance I made a mistake and I was hoping for help

This software wants £30 to do the job and that is IF you manage to install it. I don't think it is compatible with Windows 8. After mulitple tries I assumed I had no choice but to accept the ASK toolbar (malware) but that did not help either.

Are you associated with this company or do you actually have good experience of this software? After paying up, how would I have any guarantees that it would work?

I hoped for tips on troublshooting and settings.

if you using utorrent just set a port, then forward the port in the superhub both udp and tcp to the machine running utorrent, forward to the lan ip.

I had no choice on the ISP, The building I'm in only allows Virgin. I would have chosen almost any provider over Virgin.

As for illegal or not, please get off your high horses! Using a bittorrent client is not illegal. You could not possibly know what I am sharing, or whether it is illegal or not. Besides, this is a complex question and unless you are a lawyer specialising in internet issues you are very unlikely to be able to have a meaningful opinion.

There is nothing complex about the legality of running a torrent client - it is perfectly legal.

Nor is there anything complex about the law concerning the use of that client for downloading copyrighted material - the fact that torrents upload as well as download (so long as you follow the fairly straightfoward guidance given by Chrysalis) means that you are infringing that copyright and may be subject to civil penalties if caught - your identity based on your IP address could be requested from your ISP by copyright holders who join a swarm and see it.

Hi Chrysalis, Thanks for the advice. I had already done that actually, That's why I was at my wits end. I thought it was not working.

But yesterday night I rebooted the Superhub for another reason, and I found that it had started working (should have thought of rebooting right way, but for some reason it didn't occur to me and the superhub did not warn that a reboot was needed).
So you were absolutely right..

Now step part of this problem is that the connectivity only works if I am not using VPN. I just wanted to ask you to comment! I prefer to always use VPN, and now the situation is that I am connectable from the private bittorrent tracker when I am not on the VPN. But when I am on the VPN I am not connectable.

I contacted the VPN and they got back to say that they are "working on the problem". If you are knowledgeable about the network area, would you happen to know if this is a common problem and whether it's feasible that the provider finds a fix?

If the VPN is running and is giving you internet access, then the torrent client will also be using that VPN connection, at which point any port forwarding for the torrent client is irrelevant as you are tunnelling it across the Virgin Media link.

Do others have the version of torrent software you are using actually running over the VPN link.
