Well as there's no indication my exchange is going to get BT Infinity anytime soon, decided to give VM a try. Gone for the 60mb package, but will be keeping my Sky 10mb line as a backup. Was a bit hesitant in signing up given all the bad experiences posted all over the web I've read, but thought worth a punt to see if its as bad as people say. I'm in Northampton so would be interested in other people's experiences in the same area. Install booked for 23rd August.

You'll see bad reports for every ISP - not many people post to say how spiffing everything is.
Congestion problems with VM are at the optical node level which covers just a few streets so asking for experiences over a wider area won't get you sensible answers. Both my son and myself have cable in Northampton and are both even on the same CMTS however out TBB charts look completely different.

We even have different numbers of downstreams - I have 8 and he has only 6.

Virgins not that bad, especially since the new hub which isn't plagued with problems like the old one.
I doubt you'll have any issues.

If it does turn out to be a disaster because of congestion you can cancel without penalty in the first 28 days. If it does come to that don't accept any promises that things will be fixed as VM can take a hell of a long time to sort out congestion issues and have a track record for setting dates only to miss and reset them time after time.

Good point, will bare that in mind.
Install date brought forward to 19th Aug from 23rd Aug as they've obviously had some original install dates cancelled - not that i'm complaining.

You need to keep a close eye on the installer to ensure he does a tidy job. Otherwise, they work can be very shabby.

Will do, though I don't think the engineer will have a huge amount to do as previous occupants had Virgin so I've already got a couple of white VM boxes installed. One is definitely the phone, I'm guessing the other is TV/fibre broadband.

Not a problem as I've got 12MB upload now. Upgraded to the 100MB package and quick call later had the 120MB config file sent down to the SH2.
Have to say I very happy with the speed and quality - well at the moment anyway.
