Speed upgrades have slipped already.

[link to this post]

When I logged into my VM account I've had a message telling me that the latest speed upgrade would take place between March 2014 and March 2014, until now.

This morning an email arrived, with a link to a new page where you enter your postcode, which now tells me I'll get the upgrade between June and August. Going back to the page I'd seen before, after logging into my account, this has also changed to the later dates.

Think as the planning gets more detailed the estimates get better (as in more accurate). My original estimate was March-May and now it should be done by the end of March

I wouldn't mind the estimates getting better, but mine got worse frown

I would have been happier to hear that upload speeds were improving, mine went to 30/2 and it seems I'll get 50/2 when this round happens.

When I first started using a modem it was 1200/75 baud, a ratio of 16-1 ?

As time moved on we went to 1200, then 2400, 33k, 56k - am I wrong in thinking these were 36k/36k and 56k/56k ?

I joined Bradford Cable for TV/Phone and had Iomega (dish) before that, both with good speeds on 56k. We even had a concession on using PlusNet back then for half a penny per minute on 0845, instead of a penny a minute

Then came cable internet. Fixed fee, fixed line, 512K - but I can't remember what the upload speed was on that. I got up to 10mbps broadband, with 1mbps upload, which went to 20/1 then 30/2 last year. My download speed had multiplied by 60, upload by 4 ?

Now they want to put me up to 50/2 - I'd much rather have had an extra 1meg upload...

I have recently done some comparison checks as Infinity/FtTC is available here, with 59/16 max or 11/6 on ADSL being quoted. The biggest obstacle there is having to have a new BT line put in before those figures can be tested.

I wonder what rate their Tivo is? 10meg download I think, but no idea of upload - it has to communicate of course.

The 512k had a 128k upload.

Apparently all tiers will be 10:1 download:upload at 'some' point.

They said that last time though so I'll believe it when I see it.

Perhaps they'll at 10:1 by the time I ever decide to try cable again - i.e. some time after hell freezes over smile

We got our upgrade. First to 50/2 then, after a phone call, 50/3.

That's last years upload speed sorted, when we went from 20 to 30 download. Just need to wait another year for it to go to 50/5 I guess...

Beyond a comment by the guy who used to work for VM in charge of their community forum there has been nothing from VM about the 10:1 ratio being restored unfortunately.

That wasn't an official VM statement either, those were his words. VM are yet to announce another upstream uplift programme.

If 5Mb upstream is important there's always the option to upgrade to the next tier up.

Thanks for that.

Bearing in mind the ratio on fibre via BT/Openreach, 10:1 is a bit naff anyway. I have noticed that the VM forums have been cleansed of topics mentioning upload speeds, at least I can'rt seem to find any.

Perhaps I'll write to them, it usually takes 2-3 months to get any sort of acknowledgement and then they ignore the query until you write again, but I may get lucky...

No, 5mb upload isn't vital, just that it was kinda expected and I felt disappointed when it didn't happen.
