16 QAM vs. 64 QAM Upstream?

Probably answered this myself but would like some reassurance from the gurus.

Would Virgin enabling 64QAM on upstream channels allow for more bandwidth and would it improve the connection some?

Currently on 16QAM and suspect issues of bottle necking at the node during busy times.
