Hub2 + Own router. Can I keep the sticky IP?

[link to this post]

Hello all,

I have a home connection (not business) with Hub2.
I tried to install a pfsense to act as my main router os for this i activated the "Modem Mode" on the Hub2. I did get an IP which was not my sticky IP (which I have years now.
I am guessing that those are fully dynamic IPs and they will change frequently.

is there a technical solution that so that my pfsense will work with my sticky IP?

They are sticky IPs. You may not have the old one back.

I don't think this is the case. I reverted the hub to normal router mode and I got the old one back. The ranges are totally different by the way.

I meant you can't get it back while in modem mode. The ranges might be totally different but are both sticky - VM's network doesn't map small areas to IP ranges, you could get one of numerous ranges.

Yes. I'm not sure that spoofing the Hub's own router MAC address while connected to it would be wise.

I can confirm that it works however due to limited time (and futher setup needed) I had to revert back to router mode. I did not notice any problems, run a few speedtests behind my router..no apparent problems. I don't know how it would behave if it was permanent though.

I supsect that the hub's router-mac is not active at all when in modem-mode but further testing is needed to prove it.

If no apparent problems were visible what tests would you run?

Genuinely didn't know you could do that on a Hub 2. Apologies for the incorrect advice and thanks for the information.

I did not do anything on the hub2 apart from making a note of its router wan interface mac.
I then switched to modem mode. My next router (PfSense) was given a WAN mac address identical to the one from hub2.
I believe what is happening is that the only active mac on the hub2 is the one of the modem.
Also the LAN port1 (the only active port) must be working as an IP-less bridge. Hence the next available interface is the PfSense wan port (which takes IP from the modem via DHCP). Since VM sees the same mac as before it gives the same old sticky IP.
