VM Businees: unexpected Speed upgrade

After having a lot of issues with the GRE tunnel and static IPs , Virgin removed the tunnel for me. That was all working fine as has been pretty good last few weeks at 550mbps.
Imagine my suprise today its now running at 7-800mbps ! Any ideas !

Can you please be more specific?
1) Have you handed back the static IPs and you are now on dymamic?
2) By "7-800mbps" you mean that you're running a test and you get ONLY 7 Mbit in a single test and then 800 in another test?
3) Can you please show us a traceroute to 8.8.8.8 ?
4) Can you run a speed test from https://www.nperf.com/ and show us ALL resutls?
5) Can you run A SINGLE THREAD speed tests from https://www.speedtest.net/ using the following method:
- Go to site using using a browser (not the app they have)
- Change the test server to 31173 Services AB LONDON
- Below, on the "Connections" select "SINGLE" (the round circle around GO button will become orange colour)
- Run the test a few times like that using wired LAN (never from WiFi)
- Show us the resutls

I'm pretty certain he means 700 to 800Mbps

What upload speed are you getting? You should be able to see the up and down connection speed in the router settings page.

It might just be the speedtest caching issue.

Why are the tests to that server (31173) consistently better than any else?
Even the local Virgin server is much slower?

I'm getting consistent 470-480 Mb speeds, even single thread, on my 500Mb connection.

The virgin server struggles to get to 300Mb multi thread.

Even my samknows whitebox results arent that high at the moment?

I've been having issues with dropped packets and latency since I was upgraded to 500 from 350, I suspect the hub 3 is the issue. Virgin say different....

It is not by chance that I requested tests with that server/network.

I've been struggling for more than six months with my connection but not that network.
It must be either a matter of better connection (between Virgin and them) or more capable testing server. Without knowing what's behind each part of that chain is simply impossible to answer....

Do you also have static IPs?
I'm guessing this is a residential connection you have since you mention "Hub3". Is it ?

Yes residential, IP is sticky, not changed in a while.

Its interesting why the "local" virgin server that the tech's use is performing the same as any other one. Just the one you suggested is much better.

It is interesting but a mystery only to us that we have no knowledge of Virgin's network.
If I was working with them (I work for similar others) I'd have solve it a matter of a few hours. By solving I don't mean necessarily fixing it as there maybe other constraints (or policies) that cause this...

You have basically witnessed what your line is capable of because you accessed a "better testing environment". I therefore doubt your modem/router has an issue.

I am on Business 500 service with statics and rarely go over 280Mbit on single thread with the 31173 server. If i switch to dynamic (=sticky) I can have the full speed.
The difference is that statics are delivered via a VPN....so the chain gets even more complicated.
For those that have a need of statics the service is horrible. Period.

Also Business connections do not have Hub3...

Yes that makes sense.

The techs clearly have no idea what is going on either, they have requested a repull of the cable to the cabinet because they say “something isn’t right with the levels”.

I fully expect it to make no difference.

Strictly professionally speaking, if you have problem with your power levels it has to addressed without even needing to check your speeds.

Next time the engineers leave your property and consider the issue "fixed" ask them to show you the power levels on their handheld device. It is fairly simple: There should be ONLY green lights and no reds!
Greens might not necessarily be the best values but at least it means they are within acceptable levels.
