So, in the last few weeks, the internet kept dropping (even on ethernet) - didn't think much of it, just thought internet was disconnecting. As it was getting more and more, the online care.virginmedia site said to book engineer.
Engineer came out, didn't do anything, but checked on his phone and said no issues, maybe its engineers working in the area etc. Thought fine.
After he went, it continued very frequent, went to look at the hub v3 every time - and noticed the hub v3 was restarting.
So, hub was restarting, which of course meant our internet would go off, hence the drop.
after a lot of patience, and speaking with their support team, advised another engineer to be booked.
A day before appointment, get text appointment cancelled, as issue fixed - evidently not, as the router kept restarting.
By the way, it isn't the power, as other things work fine - but tested in other sockets anyway, just to be sure.
Then got in touch with VM again another few unbearable days later, and they booked another engineer.
This time, this chap was very thorough, did all the checks, went to cabinet, checked there, too. Then decided issue was to do with hub. Said to me, VM are very reluctant to give out hubs at the moment, as we've got a shortage of hubs, due to the 'chip issue' coming from China. So he needed approval from his boss, a phone call later, he came back, said it was authorised and he did the swap.
Probably hadn't even gone 10 minutes, and the router restarted itself. And continued thereafter every so often, restarting.
Rang up VM again, spoke with someone, who did more checks, and concluded it's because of congestion. As soon as he said that, I thought this falls in line with the 3/4 other people a few doors away that have taken out VM in the last month. But whatever he did, it worked for about 2 days, then it started again today. On the phone with VM, not very helpful most of the time.
Another engineer booked, but worried he/she will come and say no fault, and this issue does not get resolved.
Anyone been in a similar issue, where router kept restarting, and what the fix was? Even after a hub swap?
Many a pin-hole reset has been done (both 30-40 seconds which the call centre staff say, and 70 second reset, which the engineer said to do).
For many years, I wanted the fast speed of VM, but the constant negative comments online put me off. I recall many saying, when it works fine, it's brilliant, when it doesn't expect it to not get fixed. Now I'm sadly seeing exactly that.
My next step was to raise a formal complaint with them, to see if that get's anywhere. But thought let me ask the experts here first.
Appreciate any guidance.
