Odd VM roadworks, possibly network expansion?

[link to this post]

I'm just asking this out of curiosity more than anything — I doubt I'll be taking up a VM package in the near future due to their more expensive pricing and that I'm planning on moving in the next year or so.

I've spotted some VM roadworks just at the end of my street due to take place next week (unfortunately one.network no longer shows descriptions). The weird thing is, VM's network isn't anywhere near us as of now (literally for miles), and there are no other roadworks listings in the area that would suggest they're expanding their network into our area.

Any ideas on what this could be for? Only thing I can think of is upgrading an O2 mast further down the street, I know sometimes one.network displays the wrong/outdated company name (ie. EE still shows as T-Mobile).

Not a clue. Zero context. Not much time for digging, though, so not a major civils project.

Is there any Health/Public Services type buildings in the vacinity?

VM is a supplier to the NHS (for Business / Leased Line Circuits) and to Education and other Private Businesses.

There could already be VM Fibre in the area (separate to their residential HFC/RFoG network).

I work for the NHS in Doncaster and we use VM, and have done for years, even though they've only recently built their residential network around the area I work.

Regards,
Haydn

Yeah I understand. Was just hoping someone might know where to find more info, or have experienced a similar rollout strategy.

Ah that's interesting, wasn't aware of that. There is a GP/doctors office further up (though it's still quite a bit away), though I believe they're classified and run as private businesses? I wasn't aware they even ran a separate network for business and residential, though it seems it'd be a huge project to route fibre all the way up here only to service one or two buildings.

I have a feeling it might just be for the O2/Virgin mast further down the road, a lot of local masts have been getting upgrades over the last 6 months. That being said, they have been busy expanding their residential network 'nearby' (at the nearest coverage region anyway) so it'll be interesting to see.

Virgin Media have a wholesale fibre ethernet network that has nothing to do with DOCSIS, it could be related to this.

If its "Virgin Media Business" (VMB) it is more likely to be for the O2 mast (which probably also hosts Vodafone) which may be getting additional capacity for 4G, or an add of 5G.

VMB supply leased lines for all sorts of people and locations, and they are different to the consumer Cable TV and Broadband business.
