FTTP Battery Backup

[link to this post]

Quick question, in VM FTTP areas is the equipment (apart from end user Hub etc) battery backed up in the case of power cuts? If so, with a home battery would the service continue?

Is anyone aware how long the VM FTTP infrastructure (not house) might last for in the event of a power cut (if the answer to the above is yes)?

I don't believe so. Just basic DC rectification

There's a UPS and small battery backup in the power pedastal feeding the VHub but it's not very long-lived.

That's interesting. I found this inside view of the power pedestal to the VHub.

Looks like it has a 16A 2P+E commando input and changeover switch on the bottom of the consumer unit.

Unless that's an old photo and they've subsequently changed/updated the layout to include UPS.

I'm more than open to the possibility I was misinformed. This is second hand knowledge, I've never had my face in one of these.

I'm genuinely surprised there isn't at least something in there to condition the power and handle blips in supply from things like street lamps sharing the LV feed - they have these in the HFC nodal cabinets.

They must be doing some supply conditioning/filtering within the rectifiers located in the main VHub cabinet. That layout pictured is all just AC supply, metering and consumer unit etc.

There could even be some hold-over built into the rectifiers. Perhaps that is what your source meant?
