Virgin removed Gig1 and 500mb from my area

[link to this post]

So I'm currently on 500mb VM broadband only and today decided i'd like to upgrade to Gig1 as my discounts were ending and thought why not.

After 2 minutes in live chat i was told Gig1 was not available to me and that i would not be offered any deals because of this, i asked them to check again and still they came back saying no. I then went on the VM postcode checker and low and behold, the only offerings are from 100 to 362mb. They are not even offering the 500mb i am on now let alone Gig1 service.

Now i know 1000% my postcode was Gig1 enabled (i did upgrade to it last year before changing my mind within the 14 days because of reasons), and i have been offered it beginning of this year. But now it seems to have disappeared from my area. My area has been having terrible problems with utilisation (although VM won't admit it) for the past 2-3 years, would they decide not to offer the speeds rather than fixing their network or?

Anyway just thought i'd ask if this was normal from VM and maybe thinkbroadband may need to update their broadband availability for my area atleast.

Yes it's common for them to withdrawal the higher speed offerings if local utilisation is very high.
Orders will eventually be advertised again when local upgrades are done.

I think it would be very difficult for this site to keep track of areas where higher tiers are removed temporarily.

Oh as long its not uncommon for them to remove these services for sale temporarily while they fix a problem then that answers my question and of course yeah i wouldn't expect TB to keep track of that haha.

Is there any past knowledge of how long it takes VM before they bring it all back or is it random?

It entirely depends on how much work is needed to increase the capacity. Piece of string I'm afraid.

Just get an O2 sim and enable volt, you will be boosted to gig1.

2 years in my part of London - capacity was clearly an issue. I think 350 was the top you could get

Same thing has happened here (a very recently deployed RFoG Area) - we got emails saying Gig1 was available, but now can't order it. Not a big deal for me, as 350Mb is plenty for our use, but just letting you know you aren't the only one.
