Connection issues RFOG

[link to this post]

Hi guys,

My sister has a VM connection (1Gb) and they are seeing issues with connection stability, call logged and an engineer visited and agreed there was a problem, but its "in the network". The web based faults said there was an issue with the "signals" but shes on ROFG so as expected the engineer said all was OK

He says they have fixed it, but look at the BQM and its still terrible, I've told her to call VM faults again!

Is this congestion or something else?

She's in Syston Leics (LE5)

Thanks

Yuck... give up with faults by phone and post on the VM community forum. https://community.virginmedia.com/

I'm on a 1990s coax network (ancient) and get a traditional BQM (see sig) for my 250 Mbps service.

Easiest thing would be for her to ask a close neighbour if they're having the same problems, but the fact it's 24x7 suggests that congestion isn't the cause. Almost looks like the fibre connection is intermittent as the packet loss lines aren't wide enough to be a DOCSIS resync.

She managed to get through to faults, who have booked another engineer visit tomorrow morning.

Not really sure what this engineer will do that the last one didn't.

This already happened a few weeks ago, and then the hub 4 was swapped with a 5 that fixed the problems.

Seems something more involved in the network.

Most likely, the network is regional, and performance to the internet (and ThinkBroadband's BQM) in my area is generally good on what was originally Guildford head-end, but typically neighbouring town (Basingstoke on Reading head end) was quite different.

Community forum is worth checking out to see if the moderators have any tips, or other customers in RFOG areas.

Yes, I will have to do that for her, i'll need to get her to create an account on the community forum.

Will update after the visit tomorrow.

After all this it looks like the hub she has was overheating and causing this problem!
Removing it and connecting directly seems to have made things better.

She has 2 Unifi AP's so the internal Wi-Fi isn't in use. (think walls!)
