i rebooted mine the other day finally got it since then my service has been terrible been at this address 5 years thought been with virgin since the Yorkshire cable days always had the top package at the time at both addresses always had max speed both up and down 24/7,

since the reboot with the new config ive never seen past 40 up and my download speeds are anywhere from 200-500 where as before was getting constant 1150/52 think a phone call is in order but i totally CBA with the hold for hours at a time and script monkeys lol,

just found out this week ms3networks are installing on my street and hope to be completed by august think after being a VM customer right from 1995 YC days might finally be the time the move on

Leicester, there is other reports from the city (and county) as well.

Be interesting to see if Philce got it.

If there is concerns with capacity I actually do prefer they dont do it for what its worth, since I use upstream QoS, if it e.g. varied from 70-100 I would be shaping down to the 60s round the clock anyway and would risk regression on other metrics of the connection. I did have visible upstream congestion up until they added the 3.1 US channel. (with 50mbit upload config)

Yeah that looks rough. I am guessing despite the improvements, the Leicester network is still in a poor state compared to the rest of the country.

Luckily mine is still very good in terms of peak vs off peak, but my noise increases seem to be getting worse.

I checked my graph after looking at yours, and another outage (packet loss spike) at just before 4pm, whats in the log?

This

26-05-2023 15:53:43 critical No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=xx;CMTS-MAC=xx;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.1;
26-05-2023 15:53:41 critical 16 consecutive T3 timeouts while trying to range on upstream channel 0;CM-MAC=xx;CMTS-MAC=xx;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.1;

My 3.0 upstream's have been spending most of the time on QAM32 (modulation downgrade due to noise), and now they are logging large amounts of T3s as well.

I reported this to VM a few weeks back and its "within spec" so all good I guess.

However the drop's are not frequently visible on TBB, and I have only had one drop whilst doing stuff interactively, given my performance is still at max speeds, I have left it alone, would feel a bit silly having a big rant on the phone when the problem is largely not affecting me real world.

Strange one, after being on the phone to VM they agreed that three could see my connection was bad (didn’t say how she knew because all levels etc were OK), appointment booked for Tuesday.

However I just couldn’t figure out why the performance could crash after a reboot, so I factory reset the hub and now all is OK, the hub was not changed except the WiFi being disabled.

Still got 50Mb upload, but performance settled, also got the text about the works this week.

Outage was in the early hours, it is refreshing VM actually inform customers of maintenance, DSL providers can learn from that.

Looking at connection since, US channels are QAM64, DS errors are almost zero pre RS, and zero RS.

However already 19 combined T3's on the 5 US 3.0 channels. (possible these stats didnt reset from before, but the DS errors reset so I assume the Us have as well).

Still 50mbit upload.

TBB graph looks pretty much the same, mine of course is much better than yours still, however I examined recent graphs closer than normal, and these T3's are causing bursts of packet loss here and there, just no affect on latency.

Modem Mode makes no difference to the engineering level, the call centre just fobbed you off. In either mode you will see the Hub downloads from the CMTS (head end) over the coax side a configuration file. This configuration file determines the speeds you receive. Each modem is listed at VM's head end, so they know precisely which config file you are being sent. I think your area may not have had the upgrade yet.

When calling you can never talk to anyone technical. The Community Forum is better, but can take ages to get a response as they are busy.

Thanks for your answer,
I did get an email saying they upgraded my speed though frown

I called technical first, the guy had no idea about the boost upgrade, he said I have to upgrade to a Gig (I have 500) which is clearly a lie.

Then spoke to customer service and he said what I have told you on previous post.

Shame! In modem mode my hub 3 responds to https://192.168.100.1 and I press "check router status" on the front page (don't log in) and on the Configuration tab it shows you the Primary Downstream Service Flow and the Primary Upstream Service Flow

The "Max traffic rate" is in bytes per second the speed you are limited to.

That's the Status tab, you want the Configuration tab.

Mine shows:

Downstream
Max Traffic Rate	287500061

Upstream
Max Traffic Rate	27500061

Converting the bits/sec into megabits/sec:
287500061 = 287.5
27500061 = 27.5

This is about the top I see in a speed test on the 250/25 service.

The Hub 3 is DOCSIS 3.0 and you need the 4 or 5 to use additional DOCSIS 3.1 features, which I think might include more upstream capacity.

You could ask Customer Services if they can get you a newer hub.

Don't think your account page is advertising, though they've blatantly just a static number in there with no idea of the actual segment.

Their website absolutely is advertising though and they seem to have utterly failed with the small print. It actually damns them harder rather than covering them.

If you're the same Locky complaining about this on their Community they seem to have some work to do before they increase your upload speed. I suspect you're one of those in a small RFoG area attached to a larger HFC area. This is bad, and the most viable way to get your upload higher would be to convert you to XGSPON which in turn involves more work.

Seen the reply in a thread where their tech support asked someone to run a speedtest when the person posted a 55mbit config. (I dont think their staff are that dumb, that must be a clear delaying tactic.)

The reply was nice and to the point. smile

I made my own thread last night without realising the other 2 top threads were on the same subject.

Whilst I accept my area cant be done until they have the works required I wanted to make the point sticking a 104mbit upload in the account area (and it seems what you posted about also the advertising with no words of some areas not yet been covered) is wrong and should be corrected.

They may well not be bothering with investment in DoCSIS capacity with a view to getting you to XGSPON in that case.

Either way you cannot have 100 up on 4 upstream channels. Even on 6 would be risky and foolish if it's been installed for 3-4 years.

I got a reply saying its expected due to works needed (which I already knew of course), but ofc no comment on the portal and advertising, they wouldnt hint at a date.

However bidb does have a load of VM spots scattered around, most of them in last week of June, no idea if would be related, but I dont recall seeing that much planned VM works before.
