Virgin Media - Connection issues

[link to this post]

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone can help - I have ASD so these issue is incredibly stressful for me.

I have been using WiFi most of the time (router is downstairs and my computer is upstairs - I also have a physical disability that prevents me from being able to wire an Ethernet cable up there somehow, but don't think that this would help on Virgin anyway) I have checked Ethernet using a laptop I have and the issue occurs there too (in fact, the ping is also high - around 150ms - at the start of the match). The issue is that the ping is not consistent and the main game I play (Rocket League) has been made unplayable as a result, although other games are also impacted.

There is also general issues with stability of the connection.

An engineer was out on Thursday but didn't manage to fix the problem - another engineer is due tomorrow (there's apparently a downstream power issue). Am I correct in thinking that they probably won't fix it tomorrow - the automated diagnostics on the line supported the idea that there was a fault on Friday, though we weren't able to get the team on X/Twitter to book an engineer until yesterday.

Stuck in a contract with VM but am happy to run a contract alongside with a OR FTTP provider if this would help. We have tried to get them to terminate it early without cost but have been unsuccessful so far (this has included emailing the CEO's email - without any response at all, seems typical for VM lol) - is there anything that can be done about this?

A few questions:
I have been made aware that the issues with my VM connection may be related to HFC/DOCSIS - would this be accurate?

I'm still on a Hub 3 - would a new hub/hub in modern mode help?

Is there any soluitions that may not involve having to hard-wire an Ethernet cable upstairs - I'm happy to spend some money on any solution but would prefer not to have to call an electrician/whoever out? I was thinking Powerline but apparently this is slow and probably wouldn't help much at all

Sorry for the long post but any help would certainly be appreciated!
