From EE 900mb Fibre to Virgin 1130mb Fibre

I am looking at my options I’m on EE Fibre 900mb I pay £31.99 and will go to £34.99 in April I’ve seen I can get Virgin 1130mb for £23.99 and then £27.99 in April.

But scared of change and things as there is no 30 day contracts, only 14 days cooling off period, that don’t give you enough to test it.

Unsure what to do if it’s a bad move or?

It's a lot more expensive but VM do offer 30 day rolling contract deals.

There are no early disconnection costs if you leave, you need to give 30 days’ notice when cancelling. The rolling contract deals have a one-off rolling contract fee of £45 when signing up.

There is a problem though in your case as the top tier broadband speeds, M500 and Gig1 aren’t available on rolling contract broadband, so you would need to test using one of the lower speeds.

I am sure M500 and Gig1 was there before. Look like they removed it off.

But beware of cancel the contract, hard to get out of it. Not easy way to do it.

Yes I at checked 30 days no longer offered only offered at the end of contract

You have the option of every other Openreach supplier as well, what in particular do you need?

What's the driver for changing to Virgin? Is it only to lower costs?

When does your current contract with EE end?

You are clearly concerned about the quality/reliability of the service, but it also seems that £8 per month is a significant amount of money for you to be considering changing from a service you know and like to one you're unsure about.

Have you also considered changing to a lower speed? Most people will not notice the difference between 900M and 500M or 300M, unless they're doing lots of huge downloads. And even then, maybe waiting a few minutes extra is not a problem.

I haven't used VM for many years and it's not available where I live now, but you should beware of its reputation for terrible customer service, the huge increases in monthly prices when contract ends, and the great difficulty in terminating a connection. Consider whether the additional stress in dealing with VM is worth the saving of £8 per month.

Finally: if this is VM over copper (HFC), it could give worse performance than your EE Fibre, particularly in peak times, in certain congested areas of the country. See if you have neighbours on VM who are happy with the performance.

My phone price plan would go cheaper also if I went VM but apart from that, I’ve tried talking to EE and they can’t downgrade me until my contract runs out in 2027. So seems I’m stuck with the price rise after April and in 2027 it will go to £44.99. The £20 they give towards phone bill is good but don’t really feel it as both bills are separate. I’ve always wanted Virgin but heard the CS isn’t so good either, can’t see anyone round here on it apart from one neighbour who we don’t talkTo anymore 😂
