CANCELLING VIRGIN

[link to this post]

My contract with Virgin expires in 4 weeks, I am attempting to cancel as I am changing to BT fibre.

As no doubt you know, it is very difficult to cancel a contract with Virgin, any tips, advice will be most welcome

If you are moving to BT why not use the One Touch Switch process?

I Contacted Virgin, and they replied via their human? chatbot. They made me a very good offer on a 2 year contract, and I accepted.

What I am noticing, that the prices on the BT site have a considerable price rise, since I looked circa 14 days ago.

I suspect that all the broadband supply companies, are continually changing prices.

The cost of electricity for companies is very dynamic at the moment; home users are protected by the "energy price cap" so far. Lots of prices are going up and down like a yoyo...

Yes of course. The price goes up, and then the price drops so they can advertise this as a "discount". You can expect prices to go up for a month or two before November, so that people think they're getting a good Black Friday deal.

Not all broadband suppliers play this game. I'm with Aquiss which has level pricing in and out of contract, and between new and existing customers. The only thing which varies is their introductory discount, which moves between 3 months and 6 months at half price (currently 6 months).

But if you've re-signed with VM (or are resigned to VM) then this isn't of interest to you any more. With VM you have to play the end-of-contract game every couple of years - threaten to leave until they give you a reasonable price. Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't. It's an anti-loyalty scheme.

Exactly! I have played them at their own game... probably both of us have come out equal.

Definitely worth waiting for the contract to end and then, if necessary, phoning them multiple times.
A friend was about to move to BT as his quoted renewal price with VM for broadband and phone was nearly £80.00. I told him to keep badgering VM and he eventually got a renewal offer of £29.00 for two years! Needless to say he accepted as that was some way below the price BT was offering him for lower speeds than he was getting from VM. The regular BT price rises would have made BT appreciably more expensive over the two-year period.
