The STM does not mean you can be sure of getting the maximum speed, asked Virgin why you don't get their advertised speeds?

everyone seems to be blaming any slowdown on STM now.

In reply to a post by Chrysalis:

My take on it is that because there's been an STM change people are actually starting to check their speeds. That seems to be revealing that far more areas are now congested since VM lost their corporate marbles and started to sell what their network has no chance of supporting - 100Mbps unlimited. It still won't support it with the new STM measures IMO. A couple of torrent freaks in an area (say 1% of users) is all it takes to cripple it if they are on the 100/10 product and most high usage users will be as it's only a few quid more than the low end packages.

Of course the abysmal Superhub doesn't help either.

the TM is quite crippling

reminds me of when i was using them on a 20mbit connection

download a dvd size iso

bang at around 3gb connection is crippled

people think oki fine you been throttled but you try downloading something and using your connection at the same time - it is horrible

then u have to wait till hours

basically what they are saying is don't download until after midngiht and before 9am

like saying your buying a car but you have a speed limit in place half of the day

i was tempted to go back to VM based on cashback and cheap 30mbit connection but now i rather stay on my truely unlimited 02 20mbit connection - even with their current problems still far more attractive in my eyes than this

hmm the thing that annoys me most about this as a virgin customer (long story but when I moved to my home it was the best connection I could get) is its very limiting when it comes to what I want to do. I don't want to download vast amounts of data every month, I don't want to even download near what the cap would be if I did just under the limits each day. But what I do want to do is once in a while do some downloading and not have to spread it over several days just to not get restricted.

I'm a strong believer in digital distribution, I but games on steam, I test software (windows 8 customer preview for example) and I use streaming services. With this policy even with the biggest flagship product they have I cant say on 1 day of the month I can download the latest game from steam in reasonable (IE daytime/evening when im using my computer) hours without being limited.

Sure my limit means my connection will still work but im not a bandwidth hog if my usage is negligible every other day of the month I don't feel I should have to suffer reduced bandwidth at the one time in a month I may choose to use my connection.

It's purely my personal opinion and based on my own usage but it does leave a bitter taste frown
