Great Xmas slowdown of 2018

[link to this post]

Speeds on an uncongested exchange have plummeted this morning by 90%.

The backhaul is creaking under the strain and I'd expect it to fall over completely at some point today.

Getting 80% packet loss and just over 5meg on a line synced at 54.9meg.

Merry Christmas

No issues with BT or PlusNet, both getting the full 55 and 80 meg respectively.

I hear nothing good about VF in all honesty.

No you are not, although I hardly used the service on Xmas day and I do use a Zyxel router. smile

My contract ends in March and I am wondering whether or not to move to Plusnet now that the exchange that I am connected to is no longer classified as high price.

I'm not using the WiFi on the router but it is still wired in my network. I find the connection to be reliable but have noticed a decrease in single thread download performance to around 15Mbps in the evening.

Ping times are good though throughout and never suffer so subjectively it always seems quite quick. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video etc never have issues. Infact really the only place it is usually truely noticeable is speed tests. Running multiple threads, streams etc it's possible to max out the line (circa 72Mbps IP throughput on my line)

I will be keeping an eye on things as there is certainly some congestion starting to show. This wasn't the case on my previous broadband provider (BT)

Reliability I cannot fault and the support seemed efficient when there was a fault on the line. They had openreach attend the cabinet which fixed the problem.

Overall I would say its fine but not necessarily the best option.
