Newly connected yesterday

[link to this post]

These are my line stats from my HomeHub5 on my previous Plusnet connection

Data rate 19999 / 77834
Maximum data rate 24947 / 78366
Noise margin 14.5 / 3.2
Line attenuation 13.8 / 14.0

These are from the Vox3 today

Current Rate 57004 kbps 19999 kbps
Maximum Rate 69497 kbps 23390 kbps
Signal-to-Noise Ratio 6.2 dB 7.2 dB
Attenuation DS1 9.1 dB, DS2 20.5 dB, DS3 31.2 dB US0 2.3 dB, US1 14.4 dB, US2 22.5 dB
D (interleaver depth) 1115 1

I must admit, I was slightly disappointed with the sync speed after what I was getting with Plusnet. Also, interleave appears to be on, I was on a stable fastpath connection with a low noise margin with Plusnet. I have been reading old posts for an answer, but basically, is this likely to improve? Is it possible I may be switched back over to fastpath, or am I stuck with these stats?

You may find DLM gives back some of the speed once its algorithms are happy, or you might find the modem in the vodafone router is not the best.

Looking a lot healthier this morning and interleave depth now 8. It seems Vodafone like a healthy stable SNR.

Downstream Upstream
Current Rate 66635 kbps 19999 kbps
Maximum Rate 68218 kbps 23183 kbps
Signal-to-Noise Ratio 6.1 dB 7.3 dB

D (interleaver depth) 8 1

I do have a BT Openreach modem to try if needs be.

I gave the vodafone router two weeks before I tried for a week my own broadcom modem and left that in place for a week, did that a couple more times and conclusion was the broadcom device (TP-Link) was adding 6 to 7 Mbps of throughput (when the vodafone devices was connecting at 20 Mbps this extra speed was noticeable)

Does your Vodafone router look like this or is it one of the new ones?

I do intend to "experiment" when I know things seem stable and I that I am happy to stay with them.

The old one was not very good at maintaining the DSL connection and could not handle a large number of Wifi devices. One would hope that the new one that you have would be better in these respects but I don't know. You might learn some thing from Vodafone forum.

Looks like we had another resync in the night. Interleave still on, looks like I'm stuck with that, but overall, after the horror stories, I'm happy with the stats.

Excellent stats, you can't get any better than that! I see a lot of bad press for Vodafone, and just want to show, that some of us are very happy after making the move.

Not that those stats have anything to do with Vodaphone. With FTTC Vodaphone don't come into the picture until the exchange, everything between the customer and the exchange is BT Openreach and is the the same for all customers. A good connection certainly as is yours where BT's DLM lowered SNRM daily until it hit 3dB, the lowest allowed by DLM,. CheapSkates' SNRM didn't need to be lowered as he was hitting 80Mbps with 6dB SNRM.

A better indicator of how good Vodafone is would be to run speed tests at peak times (7pm to 10pm) to check for congestion.
