We were due to have Gigafast installed yesterday. The router arrived at the weekend and the fibre tube was pulled through to the duct egress a couple of weeks back.
The Kellys crew (with CityFibre branding) turned up yesterday morning, fitted the fibre terminator unit (a Calix Gigapoint) and commenced blowing the fibre from the house to the street cab. Despite air emerging at the cab, the fibre snapped once 60m had been spooled out. They tried to clear the obstruction with something called a dart but still the fibre snapped. They advised that another crew would be despatched to resolve this and if it wasn't going to be that day then I would be contacted. (I wasn't).
I then turned my attention to the Broadband router to see if I could get the 4G fallback working in case Sky ceased my FTTC. (Wife working from home so needs a good connection). Been through all the router menus and mobile configured but not making any effort to connect. The Dongle was checked in a PC and working fine. As a more convenient fallback I have put the SIM in a spare phone for temporary internet with hotspot set up, pleased to see that worked (but alarmed to see I have used up 1% of 50 Gig allowance just doing testing, as well as 35p for a test SMS).
The Vodafone app seems pretty useless at present, presumably due to being in provisioning limbo with the install. (The track my order web page was also pretty useless but I can see how mich SIM data I have used on the My Vodafone web pages).
Day 2- Another Kellys crew seen doing stuff between the manhole cover nearest my house and the street cab, but left after an hour or so and they didn't call on us to tell us what was going on. No contact from Vodafone or Cityfibre. Sky Broadband still lit up and still dial tone so no need to ring Vodafone yet.
