Moved from Plusnet to VF - impressed (so far)

[link to this post]

I moved from Plusnet to VF (Pro BB,) 10 days ago and I have to say I am pretty impressed so far.
Connection seems to have settled at 47.5Mb (PN was around 43Mb) and pings seem lower (according to child 2, the gamer).
The move over was smooth, woke up on the day of activation to find my PN router had disconnected. Plugged in the VF router and 15 mins later was up and running.
A few disconnects/re-connects in the first 10 days but that was expected and the speeds got better every time.
I tried the Super wifi booster but it told me the best place for it was about 10 feet from the router so not much use to me. My house is hard wired with multiple access points so I wasnt bothered about this.
On top of all this, a new 4K Apple TV and £100 of Amazon vouchers coming soon. Oh and a £3 a month discount for being an existing VF customer.
I'll be very happy if this stays this way. FTTP coming to the area in mid 2022 so will upgrade when that is available.

Thanks for the feedback as I am also considering the move from Plusnet to VF, I've been a Plusnet customer for over 15 years and always got good deals when coming up to renewal, but this time Plusnet don't want to know, their loss.

What were your line stats with PN?

Might be worth calling PN retentions once more. They were happy to give me the same deal as offered to new customers less the £75 reward card. Their initial offer wasn't worth considering.

Moved to VF from Plusnet and so far impressed, synch speed on the router has actually improved by 3MB and "touchwood" not weekly/daily disconnects either

The Openreach FTTC service is identical: it's the same cabinet, the same DSLAM port, the same copper line. However there are a couple of possible reasons why you are getting better sync speeds:

- a different modem chipset in the Vodafone-supplied router, compared to the Plusnet one
- the line has gone through a DLM reset

If it's the latter, it may be that it's settled on a slightly higher speed for now, but over time DLM may reduce it to make the line more stable. This could even take place over the course of a year, as things like the outside temperature can affect it.

Still: it's good that you're finding it's a decent service. Competition between budget ISPs is very intense.

I managed to persuade Plusnet to provide an FTTC service at Vodafone's price which at the time was less than £20 pm. I had to agree to a 2 year contract, which could well turn out to be an extra benefit!

My VF router is telling me no disconnects in 111 days, whilst PN used to get to 30 days max. Temp does seem to affect my max rate very slightly (actual speed is static at 47mb).
