Migrate from VF FTTC to VF Cityfibre

[link to this post]

Cityfibre has just gone live in my area and I’ve signed up to the 100 Meg package, primarily to get improved upload speeds. Ideally would of gone for the 200Meg service but cant justify the additional cost of the recently added Pro packages.

When the CF service goes live is there any overlap before the existing FTTC line is ceased?

Are Vodafone’s processes smart enough to keep the FTTC line working if the CF install is delayed?

Once the CF install is working I would like to use my own router, is the PPPoE username/password on the CF service the same as the current FTTC line?

Thanks.

VF did a series of internal trials migrating users from FTTC to CF provided FTTP. When your service with CF FTTP goes live, VF systems should automatically recognise that and place a cease on your FTTC supply. As for using your own router, from memory I don't think you need username and password for CF FTTP, but I will check this and get back to you tomorrow.

Also dont forget there will be a vlan tag to add also, it should be 911.
And you do need User/pw - hopefully that wont change.

A move away from PPPoE would be preferable. The CityFibre network should be able to tag traffic according to the subscriber in the same way the Openreach network can. PPPoE just adds extra load on routers that isn't necessary.

Upgraded from FTTC to City Fibre FTTH today, went smoothly. Changed my router to use WAN port and set VLAN to 911 using same credentials as FTTC.

FTTC and associated phone line still working so there is some overlap of both services. Tested initially with Vodafone router which did a firmware upgrade and according to its status lights did not have an active VOIP phoneline configured which I presume is expected until the number is ported to Vodafone’s VOIP platform.

Whoops, I was wrong! The PPPoE settings changed changed overnight and for some reason the THG3000 cant now connect. Thankfully I got the new details via chat and went back to using my own router which connected with the new login details. The FTTC exchange line number has changed and unsurprisingly the FTTC line has been ceased.

Reading across from other topics, once we are in the brave new copper-less world you would not have that route to resolve that situation if you live in an area with no mobile signal. Might be a bit problematic trying to resolve things with the average call centre if you have had to travel away from your router to talk to them!
