A Vodafone contract was taken out by a family member, and it's still within the 14 days since install (probably currently at day 12/13), but a new broadband offer is up, which is a few pounds cheaper per month. A saving of probably 70 something pounds over the 24 month contract.
Contacted Vodafone, who said only option is to cancel the contract and not able to match the offer, and retake it out again as a new contract. But in the process, the telephone number would be lost and new contract would take 10-14 days - so no internet for that period.
If a new contract was taken out again with Vodafone, and in the section where it asks for your telephone number, if the existing telephone number was put in there, what is the likelihood of it still migrating correctly?
I should add, this would be a Vodafone to Vodafone migration.
Just trying to 'think outside of the box' for what other options may work for them, without loosing their number which they've had for many, many years.
Thanks.

Plusnet might match the new Vodafone price. You could ask them and if so cancel the Vodafone service.

Sorry, I should have specified, the current contract is via CityFibre on Vodafone, so I would imagine Plusnet wouldn't work via CityFibre, seeing as Plusnet is owned by BT, or do they support CityFIbre?

There are other ISPs that will work with CityFibre such as Talk Talk and Zen.

I think the question may have got lost - the important item here is the telephone number, which most other CityFibre providers do not offer. As they have a current Vodafone mobile contract, Vodafone Broadband with CF works out the cheapest by far due to the added discount, in comparison to the other ISPs.
The question is - Is it possible to do a landline telephone number migration with the same provider - i.e. Vodafone to Vodafone.
So, if already in a Vodafone contract, the contract is cancelled, and a new contract taken out online, again with Vodafone, entering the landline number at time of purchase, would it come over?
Vodafone customer service advise number is lost if the contract is cancelled. But trying to think outside of the box - and if a same number put it at time new contract is taken out, it may work.
Just thought if anyone had done anything similar.
In hindsight, I should advised them to move over the telephone number to Sipgate, when they took out the contract, to avoid being tied down like this.

In theory it sounds plausible as the number is technically staying within VF. However these things aren’t always so simple.
My experience with VF (on the mobile side to be fair) is very mixed. They’ve minced my account and numbers up numerous times during regrades and contract renewals in the 15 odd years I’ve had accounts with them and “recovery” can be prolonged / pained.
To my mind it’s a game of high stakes poker if you want to keep the cherished number. Especially if VF themselves are telling you it will be lost.

It seems that the phone number has *already* transferred from the previous provider to Vodafone, since the VF service has already gone live.
If that phone number is important, then I'm afraid you'll just have to swallow the £70 over two years. Then at the end of it, pay another £30 to migrate to Sipgate (which will also terminate the service) and *then* order a new broadband service with whatever is the best deal at the time.
If keeping the phone number isn't worth £100 to them, then cancel and reorder now.

Cheers - I guess best not to take the risk, due to how valued the number is to them.

Thanks - this would probably the most rational approach, and just swallow the circa £70+ cost.
