What router?

What router do you get with Vodafone fibre service, or does it depend on what level /speed you go for?

I had to do something I normally don't do and just chose a provider quickly due to NowTV cutting me off, so just picked the first one in a list.

Well my router arrived today.

Power supply says 30W compared with the current 6W, so quite some increase!

It supports both FTTP and FTTC. I wonder if it uses more power for one than the other?

30W will be max load the psu can supply. Look on the bottom of the router for the actual load drawn by the device. I would expect it to be similar to your previous device.

I noticed quite a difference between the Sky supplied router and my previous Sagecom one, so went back to using the Sagecom one. Obviously as this is a Fibre product I won't now be able to do that.

Mine is a THG3000.

Don't know if this is standard to all packages or not?

Only thing on the bottom applicable to power consumption is 12v 2.5 amp.

Yet to establish if it supports NAT loopback.

You need to measure it, to get a correct value of consumption. Nameplate rating on power suppliers are always worst case and shouldn't be used /trusted to make power estimations or saving qualifications or otherwise.

Routing effectively at higher speeds takes some power unfortunately.
10W should be enough even with an x86 CPU to route 1gbit though as a benchmark.

Yes, I was expecting a small increase but not five times.

I guess the real test will be what it uses at idle or even low speed. I don't really need fibre but that is what is being pushed at the moment as they are trying to recoup the investment they have made.
