Understanding charges after leaving

[link to this post]

Hi I signed up to vodafone pro broadband on 07/01/2022. It was around £30 a month with a 50% discount for 2 years and has increased up to around £38 since

The service went live on 13/01/2022 and I received a renewal email on 06/12/2023 saying that my contract was due to end on 07/01/2024.

So I rang them a few days later to ask what i have to do with them if i want to go to another ISP. The person said I can just leave and thats it.

I then signed up with another ISP on the 17th and the move date was on 04/01/2024.

The transition went fine but now I have received a notification saying that I will be charged on on 23/01/2024 £75.02 sand the same amount in February.

I am speaking to vodafone and they are saying because my billing date is the 13th of jan I will be charged £75.02 and be credited back the period between the 4th and the 13th jan, and the february bill will credit me this back.

My belief is that I gave the notification within the contract period and left them a few days before the contract ended, so even on any pro rata basis there should be no £75 charge and it should not be worked out based on a £75 monthly cost because for my contract i was on a 50% discount, not an out of contract price.

Does anyone have any insight or guidance they can provide on this?

Just cancel your DD, and wait for them to invoice you the correct amount.

I agree with you, you should only have to pay up to the end date of your contract if that is after your move or up to the move if that is after your contract ends.

These out-of-contract price rises need to be reviewed by OFCOM as there a [censored] take IMHO

I have a feeling that Voda may require a month's notice before leaving, so the extra month may be this notice period. Have a look in your T&Cs before you take any action. I would hesitate to cancel your DD as things can become fraught, ie many ISPs will repay your credit into your account via your DD details and DD may be a condition of your contract.

Eventually got to the bottom of it because they were showing that i would be billed in february as well.

They said my new isp didnt do what they were supposed to whilst taking over the line so i showed as an active user still for vodafone. they said I would have to pay the £75.02 in a week which would then be refunded minus the £1.77 early termination fee.

Are you based upon the Openreach network, if so, I would take that with a pinch of salt.

We see this all the time with Vodaphone. We put in perfectly valid transfers via the GPL process, the services come over, all notices are triggered (even the customers get a notice from Voaphone about leaving), yet somehow "we" have not done something correctly and billing remains open at Vodaphone....funny it's only Vodaphone we are seeing this with currently.
