TP-Link ER7212PC and FTTP

[link to this post]

I'm currently using a Draytek 2925, but thinking I might jump ship to an TP-Link ER7212PC router. Anyone used one on Vodafone?

As it has a SFP wan port I'm also wondering if I could skip out the ONT if I could find the right module....

Vodafone Fibre (Superfast2 - 80/20), Draytek 130, DrayTek 2925, DrayTek AP-910c x 2
(Gone but not forgotten: AP-700, 2820n x 2, 2800vg, 2800, HG612)

Speedtests:
ThinkBB - Mini | ThinkBB - Full | Speedtest.net

To what advantage? Creating market pressure for ONTs to be incorporated in the router just takes us back to the bad old days where ISPs control your wireless, your LAN internet addressing and all sorts. No sympathy for this.

My thought purely was one less device which needed to be powered on.

Vodafone FTTP, DrayTek 2925, DrayTek AP-910c x 3
(Gone but not forgotten: Draytek 130, AP-700, 2820n x 2, 2800vg, 2800, HG612)

Similar discussion here: https://forums.thinkbroadband.com/fibre/f/4770252-ft...

The suggestion made there that ONTs should be powered by PoE would address your point.

Did you have any luck on this? I am currently on EE (BT's core network on Openreach). I can get an O5 state on my GPON stick. But I can't establish the PPPoE link. I thought this doesn't matter which ISP we use?

There are 2 successful cases related to replacing the Openreach ONT:

I've not progressed with the idea at the moment, so I'll wish you good luck.

This sums up the present state-of-play as far as Openreach is concerned. The Fritz!box 5690 pro comes with a SFP port and AON and GPON adapters but I confess that I have no idea how it would address authentication issues.

SFP Modules:

SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) modules are used in network equipment (like switches and routers) to connect to different types of network connections, including fiber optic connections.

Why not SFP?

While SFP modules can connect to fiber, the ONT is a specialized device that not only converts the signal but also handles the authentication and network connection, which is a crucial part of the GPON system.

Openreach's ONT Tracking:

Openreach tracks the serial number and MAC address of the ONT, which is why you can't simply bypass it with a different device
