Caller display available with digital phone?

[link to this post]

I've just moved from Plusnet (very good), as they don't offer a digital phone, to Vodafone. I've just spent 1.5 hours plus on a chat trying to get caller display activated and they say it's not available despite page 5 of their current price plan leaflet shows it as a free optional extra. What's going on?

I'm really dissatisfied with Vodafone's customer service, and this is only the first day!

@LFau,

Since you're in your "cooling off period", you could cancel Vodafone. My parents went from Plusnet to EE as they were wanting to keep their landline. Switching wasn't too problematic (took a LITTLE longer than anticipated). Not sure if EE have caller display but my parents have a couple of DECT phones that automatically display the incoming number. Maybe this might be an option for you.

I have read elsewhere about (but not experienced) Voda's poor CS. Sadly, they aren't alone. However, in my opinion, jumping from PlusNet was not actually a good idea; theirs is one of the better, I think.

What you perhaps should have done, is stick with PlusNet for the broadband and "simply" taken out a VOIP service with a separate provider like aa.net.uk. It's probably cheaper than a bundle, and decoupling phone and internet services like this makes future switching (of either service) easier since the one need not affect the other in any way.

And, yes, callerID does work at both aa and with my own (not longer available to new subscribers) service at sipgate.

Even if you choose an entirely different Internet provider, I'd still recommend decoupling. You can then choose the best internet service separately from the phone line (VOIP) service.

We have Vodafone digital voice and have calling line identity. There are no settings available for it on the account and I don't remember needing to ask for it (we have had it for 2½ years).
There isn't much information in their support pages. It appears that it should be automatically available:
To get caller display on your landline, you need a compatible phone with a screen to show the number of the person calling you.
You might need to set the phone up to get the number to appear on the screen. Check the phone manual to find out how to do this.

Their tech support is not good. If you don't get the right agent they just read off the screen, which is what you can read on the website.
When we first had fttp installed the phone didn't work. The CSA that I dealt with insisted it was because we were using an RJ11 to RJ11 lead not a BS 6312 to RJ11 adaptor. After waiting for the adaptor to be delivered I got to speak to somebody who knew what he was talking about and identified that a firmware patch that was needed for digital voice hadn't been applied.
