help with port unblocking

[link to this post]

I have a Speedtouch 580 and my ISP is Plusnet I downloaded the x-lite software so has to be able to use VOIP but when trying to register I get the 408 error message, which means I need to open these ports:
UDP 3478 - STUN
UDP 5060 - SIP
UDP 8000 - Xlite RTP
UDP 8001 - Xlite RTP
The problem is I have no idea how to do this, can anybody help? Please make it simple has this is out of my league.

I have never found it necessary to unblock any ports using X-Lite and VoIP. I have used a Netgear and a 3Com router. Yes you have to for VPN but not for telephone. I've no idea of what it means but "tunnelling" by X-Lite enables the connection to be established via a router without any special configuration.

I don't have any ports open on my router and Windows Firewall on.

I think 408 is a time out error. In the "Advanced" tab of the SIP account set up I have these settings -

3600, 20 and 1800.

Advanced options are both ticked.

Using an outbound proxy should avoid any NAT issues...

I have checked my settings in the advanced tab and they are the same as yours but I still get the 408 error when trying to register. Your right it is a timeout error but on the help page it suggests I open the ports mentioned earlier. I've tried going to the site reccommended, but my router (speedtouch 580) won't accept the inputs. Any idea how to open ports. If so can anyone who does know explain to me step by step has this is beyond me.
