Asterisk Incoming CallerID

Anyone know how I can get CallerID from an Asterisk system either through telnet or a serial interface?

bit more info - is this real time caller ID of an active incoming call ? The call records on Trixbox / Freepbx make it available as a web page, asterisk logging would show it if you ssh into the server, an IP phone would display it and an ATA ought to present it on the attached phone for example DECT.

Yes, it's real time caller ID of an active incoming call.

Pretty much the situation is that we have about 6 operators in a mini-call centre and the software they use has a program to hook up to traditional PBXes and continously watch for incoming callerID.

When it sees that one of their extensions has picked up it matches the incoming caller ID to its customer database and then pops that customers record up on the telephonists screen.

I've spoken to the coder as they need to write modules for each phone system but he needs a sample output from either telnet to a TCP port or a serial interface.

Is there any way of getting this information out of Asterisk in this format?

I know it exists, but not much more. Plenty of folks are doing what you describe and I expect they use the AGI.
