Yes, they can, and as ITSPA members you are safe in being able to port them elsewhere, should you ever need to.

Friend might need to get a new router to work with SIP. I was thinking of suggesting a moveover to "Be" broadband to benefit from the higher upstream data rate, but it sounds like the Bebox can have a few issues with VOIP and SIP.

"Be" would be a good move as he is currently on a 3GB allowance from Newnet and putting his calls over that would need more bandwidth in both directions.

Will need to post a query in the Be forum about using SIP based VOIP with the Bebox.

I have been using voipfone for my business for around 9 months now and found it to be a perfect solution.
I have 2 incomming number and 0800 and an 0870 and have 3 extentions. 1 of these extentions doesnt have a phone, but is re-directed to my mobile. my mobile rings at the same time as the other phones so if im out i can still answer calls.
Im only charged for re-direct if i answer on mobile.

my total charges without calls are �4.99 for 0800 number and 3*99p for extentions + VAT, so cheaper than it would cost for a single BT line without freephone number.

I can recommend you and you get try out all their services for free for a month and I get 50% of second months services for recommending (which is a bit rubbish as if i was recommended they would only get �6.50, but hey, it's something), but you get to try out the PBX for a month for free, so not bad.
