Using BT Home Hub just as a voip gateway

I have a client who was experiencing a lot of problems with the Bt Homehub 2.0, whereby it was shutting down intermittently (I've heard this might be a problem with the firmware). It was also connected to an extension so in order to rule out any problems with their wiring I've now set up a Vigor 120 connected to the master socket going into an Apple Time Capsule. The network now seems stable.

However, the client then sprang it on me that they'd been using the HomeHub as an extra phone line for their sales team. So what I'd like to know is this: is it possible to use the HomeHub ONLY as a VOIP gateway by connecting it to the router and somehow turn off all its other features in the config, or would I have to get a 2nd hand Voyager in order to do this?

If you are being paid to do this I would have thought that the simple solutions would be to either plug a seperate telephone adapter into the new router or to swap the new router for one with a VoIP port.

I don't' think you will be able to use VOIP from the Bt Homehub 2.0 as a slave.
All the latest BT firmwares for their Homehubs have had their useful features like telnet etc disabled due to security vulnerabilities. With the home hub versions 1 and 1.5 and the 6226 firmware you could use the homehub as a secondary cw VOIP from another provider by setting this up via the telnet commands.

However it is not recommended to use this firmware due to the security vulnerabilities of this firmware.

Thanks. OK if this is not really possible, is it possible to use any other VOIP telephone adapters with the BT service still? I was reading about someone getting it to work, but then saying that BT had changed something and it was no longer possible. If I could cheaply connect an existing phone to BT Broadband Talk I think my client would be much happier than if she had to have a new POTS line put in.

The simplest VoIP connector is the Linksys (Cisco) PAP2.
You will however need to extract or obtain BTs settings. As you are using their service I would have thought that there is no reason why they should not give them to you. They will in any event be in the orginal HH.

As I understand it the PAP2 no longer works like this as BT made some changes, the guy who came up with the method now says you can't do it. So I was wondering if anyone was still using 3rd party voip equipment with BTBT.

I have successfully setup my Nokia E71 with bt broadband talk account and have turned off the line in bt home hub 2.0.

I also use sipgate on my e71.

Is there a way that devices like pap2 and swissvoice ip10s work with bt home hub?

Can you please share how you have configured the nokia for BT BB Talk settings. I have turned off the HH and would like to use a Windows Phone on Wifi as a BB Talk client.

Click on the above link, It can also be accessed by logging into your bb talk account then choosing config device

Once logged in u'd see a config button on the bottom right hand side press i.

A popup win will open.

now RIGHT CLICK the config button in this NEW WINDOW and copy link location.
whatever your browser's nature is.

Now paste it in a notepad/wordpad/ whatever.

Sort the things out.

USING THE ABOVE VALUES DIDN'T WORK FOR ME....had to google it...turned out that in proxy server address use "sip:62.239.168.196"

Realm: "btsip.bt.com"

registrar server address is fine as "sip:btsip.bt.com" so is its realm as "btsip.bt.com"

And it is ietf in service profile in nokia sip client for e71 (builtin)
