Hi guys
Really need some help over here .
Signed up for voIP with BT business and bought gigaset N300A + handset same day. Needed SIP details from BT which took over 48hrs to get ( useless) which at this point looked at the settings asked for by gigaset's "wizard" and look completley different.
I use their own ( gigaset's) wizard to load a profile but surprise surprise BT isn't 1 of the default list so is asking for manual set up.
Any guidance would be greatful , have ilmited info from BT re: SIP so will post if you want anything.

Can you post the list of requirements from the Gigaset and it should be possible to map across:

Hardware: Excellent choice
VoIP provider: You may find the will to live pervades when dealing with BT on their help line notwithstanding it takes forever to get configuration information. There isn't a lot of manual configuration necessary to get the VoIP service up and running but there are subtle configuration differences with each provider. I don't use BTs VoIP services so not qualified enough to help you.
If yiu were either a DrayTEL or Callmaster user I could give you chapter and verse, so if BT drives you up the wall, you are welcome to pm to me for help; not allowed to advertise here.

Glad to hear that it works ... I can now order my N300A IP ! Where did you go for yours? And which handsets did you buy?
I had intercepted the full string that is sent down when setting up the handset from bt.com./businessbbv and split that apart. Checked it with the data from the VOIP help desk and had been thinking it through alongside the not too helpful Gigaset guide.
It was really just an educated guess. Just monitor it for a day or so to make sure it does not drop out and try a couple of reasonable length calls.
I have two VOIP - may become three and a PSTN to run into mine.

i spoke to soon
configuration is "registered" so all seems to be complete on that side of things.
however , cant dial out constant "busy" line and try to call goes straight to answer phone
any other ideas??
call settings are as follows , number assignment : outgoing IP1 incoming IP1 (for both handsets) fixed line unchecked and gigaset.
stupid question, but, gigaset instructions are to connect a fixed phone line into the base as well as a cat 5 to the modem , seems odd when i only want to call via modem, this an issue??

As it's a "Hybrid DECT IP base station for landline and VoIP calls" the phone line is optional.

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.

You have done the handset to line association - does it need a reboot?
The fixed line capability is an extra - try doing that and see if you can make calls in/out using the handset.
What about a call to Gigaset Tech Support?

not sure what that means but checked settings on base in config, can see both handsets fine, turned power of on both base and each handset, nothing :/
|
|
|
In the config there is a table with the two lines listed - and a third if you add the fixed line.
Then each handset is shown and you need to "tick" the boxes to allow each handset to access incoming and outgoing for each line.
You need to get a fixed line connection - then you can prove that the handsets to base station and to the real world actually work.

Some suggestions for you:
Firstly put a password on your system. DO NOT leave as 0000. Also do not allow remote management unless essential to have.
It is very worthwhile to activate your gigaset number and to be aware what the number is.
Go to to the Number Assignment page. I personally have not be able to get satisfactory operation if Line Type for outgoing calls is set to Fixed Line; I have chosen VoIP. Try that setting.
No automatic fallback to fixed line.
For the handsets, outgoing calls for the first VoIP configuration is selected. For incoming calls, initially tick everything.
Chose very carefully which lines you wish to associate with the inbuilt answerphone.
Predial area code for local calls through VoIP: NO
Setup an email account. For the server address you can only use an IP number.
Activate Info Services - the weather info is very good.
Show VoIP status on handset:YES
Automatically adjust clock to summer-time changes: ON
Now these settings will mean on you first IP setting you just dial the VoIP number or POTS number but you must include the dialling code, e.g. 01234
To select another VoIP provider add the suffix #2 to #6
To select your fixed line, either suffix the number with #0 or *
For calls via gigaset the suffix is #9
With my VoIP providers [DrayTEL or Callmaster], all calls VoIP to VoIP are free with no time limit - is that true for BT also.
An interesting facility with the Gigaset phones if you have more than one handset and have a call in progress then if another call comes in it can be answered on the free handset.
Hope that helps.

Hi,
I'm in the exact same situation. I have my settings 'registered' in the settings in the N300, but constant busy signal outgoing and straight to BT voicemail (1571) on incoming.
If anyone has any other suggestions - I'd really appreciate them.
Thanks,
Dom

That is the exact point I got stuck at for 3 days before stumbling onto an answer that seems to have worked.
After many calls to BT (virtually useless) and Gigaset (totally useless), and reading a lot of posts on various forums on the internet, I decided that I was never going to get it to work and just to make sure that the account was not properly connected, I downloaded XLite onto my laptop and put all the settings in there and made a call to my mobile - that worked as expected, so I knew the account was fine. I called the number back and...hey presto suddenly my Gigaset handset rang. Tried ringing out on the Gigaset and it worked...sometimes I would hear the busy signal for 2-3 seconds, but it would then dial out. After quitting XLite and removing my laptop from the network my VoIP line continued to work normally on the Gigaset phones. Result!
So somehow, XLite "activated" the account and it now works normally.
I'll report back if any further problems occur.
Good luck everyone!
DS
