2 VoIP phones for home use

Hi all,
I have just moved over to a wireless connection at home and i no longer have a landline. I have recently bought a yealinkt20p phone which is capable of using 2 lines. This is currently set up with two providers who each provide me with a geographic number. At present, everything is working just fine.

1 - localphone.com
2 - sipgate.co.uk

My question is, i have just bought the panasonic KX-UT113NE to use as my second phone. It has not arrived yet but i am trying to prepare myself for any problems that i might have.

Will i be able to transfer a call from one to the other.
Will each phone be able to call the other phone, a bit like an intercom.
I do not really want to use asterisk due to having to have a pc running day & night.
Lastly, are my providers classed as hosted voip providers. I am unsure what hosted voip is.

PBXes.com offer a free virtual Asterisk service which can be configured with a simple web interface (free only for low volume users - up to 2000 call minutes per month). This is a simple way to allow calls from one phone to the other and (I believe) call transfers.

You can also set it up for your trunk connections to outgoing call providers - although that does mean storing your user names and pass words on their system.

Thanks for the reply & info. That site nearly looks perfect. In fact, I think it would have been if I did not have 2 sip providers. I think the free account will allow 2 lines but with one provider. I have already topped up funds on both accounts and started to give out the numbers to people. Still it may be cheaper in the long run to give up one of my current numbers and get a 2nd number so I have both with the same provider then get pbxes to host them.

I will have a play with it today. I will also see what can be done when the new phone arrives on monday. But thanks for the pointer about this site.

For phone to phone calls within your house there is a small risk that NAT (network address translation) issues will arise (if you have just 1 public IP) since the phones are on one side of the router and the server on the other side. It depends on how good the NAT implementation is in your router. With my Thomson TG585 I find it works fine at first but after a while if the router has been on for a long time with lots of tcp connection having gone through it the NAT can fail and you get no audio passing between the phones

For calls to/from your trunks there shouldn't be a problem with NAT.

You are allowed up to 5 trunk on the "free" service. For more than 5 you have to subscribe to a paid for package.
