Dtmf tones and ivr systems with Fritz 7530 router and analog

Hi,

I am using a BT callblocker dect phone connected to the analog input to a fritzbox router. Voip is provided by Andrew Arnold. System appears to work well until I tries to navigate an ivr system to enter credit card details. I have tried two systems and neither work. Only setting on fritzbox is to do with inband dtmf tones. This is set to automatic. Option are: _ automatic, info/rtp/inband, rtp/inband, or inband.

Has a one experienced similar problems?

The AAISP end is using Firebrick and says:

Out of band DTMF is accepted using SIP INFO or RFC2833. DMTF can be sent using RFC2833 or generated a-law in-band audio.

So perhaps set your Fritzbox to send RFC2833 ?

A&A are like many other providers and use RFC2833 - however doesn’t sound like The Fritzbox has that specific option.

You may wish to try “rtp/inband” which should be the closest setting.

Do A&A provide a test number that you can check your DTMF with?

I have tried all the options on the Fritzbox with no sucess (including IN BAND). The DTMF settings on the Fritz are under the line settings. There are a different set of settings for the analog FON input where I would have expected the settings I want to be.

This thread in the forum indicates a similar problem which was resolved by using a Panasonic KX-TGP600 base station (ie avoiding the Fritz box). I guess my options are:

- Try a cheap corded phone
- Pair my DECT handsets direct to the FritzBox
- Buy another ATA or VOIP capable base station.

None of these will give me the advanced call blocking features of my existing BT phone which I find invaluable.

In the mean time I will try the Fritz forums and help line to see if they are aware of this problem.

One final point, the FritzBox requires a BT to RJ11 adapter. There are two sorts, one includes a 'ring' capacitor. I have the capacitor. Can any telephony experts say if this is likely to be the cause of the problem.

Looks like SOGEA is not as simple as I had thought.

I think you only need this for ancient phones with physical bells inside to make them ring. Nothing to do with sending DTMF tones.

This is where you need to match your VoIP hardware to the service. FritzBoxes (from Germany) are not that common in the UK and AAISP may be able to advise alternative hardware. Or you could try and move your number to a different VoIP provider whom works with FritzBoxes .

Plainly the problem is the Fritzbox.

The ring capacitor has nought to do with it.

I'm using a Cisco SPA-112 with AAISP VoIP, configured as per AA wiki, but have no recollection of recently calling any DTMF requiring IVR systems. Anyone have a test number I can try?

I use Sipgate and they have a dedicated DTMF/IVR test number (as well as a general test and echo/voice response test numbers), but its on-net only.

There's a couple of scam HMRC numbers that I could send you to test with 😎😂

AAISP has a page of how to configure various devices, the FritzBox entry has a comment "Not yet tested" https://support.aa.net.uk/Category:VoIP_Phones

Annoyingly I just tried to call my mobile voicemail's PSTN access number, and my keypresses aren't recognised so time to play with my settings!

I remember playing about getting reliable DTMF when I first was getting asterisk setup about 10 years ago now. I tortured myself even more by having asterisk route outbound and inbound between SIP and PSTN circuits (through the FXO port of an old Linksys SPA3102 box)

Things seem to have improved quite a lot since, but still not perfect!
