Different Sip Accounts for Incoming/Outgoing calls?

[link to this post]

I have a Grandstream HT802. And from reading online what many seem to be doing is having Sipgate Basic manage their incoming calls and have FreeVoipDeal manage their outgoing calls.

How do I set this up inside my HT802. So all outbound calls I make go through FreeVoipDeal, yet also have it so all incoming calls I receive are from Sipgate?

Thanks

I haven't set up a Grandstream, so without looking I cant give you the specifics, but in general what I've done on other devices / platforms as follows:

1. Setup a SIP registration on the device for both providers - check and test inbound and outbound works for both connections
2. Allow all inbound calls from both numbers / SIP registrations - should be by default
3. Restrict outbound routes to only use FVD - perhaps setup Sipgate as the secondary/fallback route.

Thanks, but the thing I am worried about is it only has one username/password box on the settings page on the Grandstream.

So I guess the ultimate question is, do you need your sip username password to just make outbound calls. Or is it required for inbound calls too.

And if it is. How do you get around the need of having username/password for both Sipgate/FVD but only having one Username/Password box in the Grandstream settings?

As said, I don’t have one, so I could be barking up the wrong tree here, but…

…a very quick peruse of their manual suggests you should be able to setup an individual SIP account respectively for each of the FXS ports. That’s not necessarily going to be an elegant way of doing things, but it will work. If not slightly clunky as you’d need to have one handset connected on say FXS1 to do inbound and another on FXS2 for outbound.

Surely there must be a better way on this box. I’ll have a bit more of a read later on, unless any HT802 owners can chime in.

Did you work it out Anth?

You can definitely do this quite seamlessly on some other well known VoIP based (like the trusty old Gigaset n300’s) boxes (or in software pbx) but not sure if there’s a better method directly with your Grandstream ATA?

No, unfortunately it seems impossible on the Gigaset devices. After your reply suggesting about the fallover server. I had sent a tech support request to Gigaset and the response back was the fallover server can only be from the same supplier incase the first server from them went down.

Its impossible to use two suppliers at the same time on the Gigaset devices. I have therefore yesterday ordered a Gigaset N300IP device to try it on I am just waiting for it to be delivered.

Thanks for your help though.

No worries.

Remember the N300 is purely a DECT base - it’s not an ATA like your Grandstream, so nowhere to connect any wired handsets.

Good luck with it.

I have an N300A IP using both SIPGATE, VOIPIFY and previously BT (former VoIP not teh current offering) plus BT PSTN - that is three VoIP suppliers.

Incoming calls can arrive on any of teh three numbers, and they are routed to all or different handsets. Each handset can have teh outgoing call provider defined so each can be different, or all the same.

Definitely it’s the easiest way forward from a configuration exercise.

The alternative, would be to keep the Grandstream ATA, but run it as a dummy extension from a compute instance running Asterisk, which would do all the smarts and routing etc…. But asterisk is a huge learning curve for the uninitiated compared to using a simple N300 with its simple GUI setup and arguably a sledgehammer to crack the proverbial nut for something like this.
