Does porting number from Plusnet to VOIP Cancel Plusnet?

[link to this post]

If anyone has recently ported their landline from Plusnet to a VOIP provider (like AA) let me know what happened it would be appreciated?

Will this still automatically cancel my Plusnet landline and associated FTTC?

Did Plusnet let you know what was going on and confirm what was being cancelled and any charges for leaving by email?

I am not going to end up having phone cancelled and Plusnet still charging for FTTC as I have not phoned and cancelled?

Thanks

Yes, since they are tied.
I just went through this process. However, I could get FTTP installed (also with Plusnet), so I activated that option, then separated the LL number and ported that to A&A.

If all you do is port your landline phone number to a VoIP provider, then the broadband service associated with the landline will cease, triggering the closure of your Plusnet account, along with the associated loss of any email accounts, web space, static IP addresses, etc. If you leave your existing payment method intact, then Plusnet will take or refund any monies owed.

If you want to retain your Plusnet VDSL broadband service, you should 'upgrade' your existing FTTC line to become Plusnet's "Fibre" product (which is their terminology for a SoGEA 80/20 connection). Doing this will disable the landline phone capability, and then you have a maximum of 30 days for your chosen VoIP provider to port your number to their service, otherwise your number will get recycled to someone else. Your Plusnet account should carry on as before (billing, emails, static IPs etc) just without an associated call package.

I did this, moved from Plusnet to A&A for VoIP in 2019. My broadband move was to Virgin Cable, so I got the Virgin connection up and running and three weeks later put the A&A voip order through to migrate the number. That terminated the Plusnet FTTC and I got a “sorry you are going” email from Plusnet.

Thanks everyone for replies.

I am moving away from Plusnet so when I move landline to A&A I want to be sure everything phone/broadband/etc at Plusnet will be cancelled? I shouldn't need to phone Plusnet it should be automatic and an easy way to cancel?

Does anyone remember Plusnet sending an email when they receive a request to move the landline confirming everything?

Thanks

Yes, that is what will happen. I had exactly the same situation: I migrated my Plusnet phone number to Sipgate, and that ceased the phone line and broadband from Plusnet. (I had FTTP running alongside it from a different provider).

Yes. I sent my porting request to Sipgate on 24/7/22.

On 28/7/22 I received an E-mail from Plusnet:

"Leaving Plusnet - what you need to know
...
We're sorry to hear you're leaving us.

Another service provider has told us that you want to move your broadband and phone away from Plusnet.

Your broadband and phone service is scheduled to transfer automatically on 2nd August 2022 and will result in the cancellation of your Plusnet account. This means that on this date, your services will be taken over by your new provider and you won't need to contact us to cancel your service with us.

If something isn't right and you would like to speak to someone about your account, please call us for free on 0800 073 3057 from a landline or mobile."

It carried on to give details of the remaining charge I had to pay (which was £5.15)

On 2/8/22 I received confirmation from Sipgate that the port was complete.

Many thanks for the detail.

Crossing fingers that the process hasn't changed in the last 18 months.

With my luck it probably has!
