Stepdown converter to run Yealink base station from 12v

[link to this post]

I am trying to sort out Battery Backup power for our community shop, which has a BT Cloud Voice via a Yealink base station.

I have bought a Cyberpower BBU (same as BT supply to residential Digital Voice customers without a mobile signal, if you ask firmly) and a two-way 2.1mm splitter cable with the intention of using the BBU to keep both BT Hub and the Yealink base station running (to allow 999 calls) in the event of a power failure (there is no mobile signal).

But while the BT Hub works off 12v and so matches the BBU (which outputs at 12v DC), it turns out that the Yealink base station needs a 5v supply. So the only BBU that the BT group offers won't work with the Cloud Voice kit that they supply. Not clever.

Can anybody point me to a reputable 12v->5v step-down power converter ready-wired to 2.1mm connectors? A quick look confirms that there are plenty of bare-bones converters available, but I really want a professionally-made unit that is ready to plug in - and I can't find anything. Ideas?

Change the parameters of your search.Your requirement is not for a 12V to 5V step down, it is for a battery back up for a 5V unit, which might widen the range of your search.

Try searching Ebay for 12v to 5v, there will be hundreds of options as 5v is a common voltage to create from car batteries etc. If you are good with a soldering iron you could have something ready to use in a few minutes for a few pounds.

The Yealink W60B has a 5V 600mA PSU and I expect their other bases are similar. I can't immediately find any specification for the USB socket on the BT Hub, but potentially you could use a USB A plug to DC 5.5x2.1mm barrel connector cable (plenty on eBay, Amazon, etc.) if it Hub is capable of providing that.

Find a suitable battery backed 48v PoE injector and run the base from that - I have a W60B using PoE.

I think you'll find the Talentcel Mini UPS, https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08FBB4Q8V will meet your requirements.

I've had one for two years now, and whenever I turn the power supply off it powers my ONT, router, (both 12V) and the ATA (5V) for up to 8 hrs. It is featured in the TBB Guide section entitled "How to stay online if the UK experiences power cuts in 2023". It even comes with a connector for the BT Hub.

Extra comma in your link, it should be https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08FBB4Q8V

Can confirm this should work.
I have powered it off a 500mA supply before and any USB port should supply at least 500mA

Thanks

That's true for dedicated charging ports, however general USB data ports are only required to supply 100mA.
