VoIP and DECT

[link to this post]

I've become frustrated that my Gigaset N300 does not offer blocking of incoming nuisance calls. From what I can see neither do the other two main VoIP to DECT switches Yealink or Grandstream. I notice Fritzbox offers it. But I have a broadband modem and a perfectly adequate router and wifi setup. My question: Can I use a Fritzbox to simply replace the Gigaset N300? If so whats the cheapest device model, new or second hand? Ant ips on how to configure? Thanks ...

In principle, you could use the Fritzbox just for VoIP (and plug into your broadband router just like the Gigaset)
You may have some issues with the NAT in the router but if it works with the Gigaset behind the router then that should also work for the FB.

You could get an older FB but I would get one that is still being sold by AVM so you get at least another five years of product support. You can pick up a 7530 for about £25 on Ebay (if you are patient).

Personally, I would use the FB to replace router and modem rather than have yet another box.

Blocking nuisance calls requires you to add them to the blocked list but that only requires three mouse clicks in the FB web GUI

I'd look at the numbers of your calls, the ones I am receiving they use a different random CLI for every call so blocking would do absolutely nothing.

The only real solution is a call screening system and even that can be problematic as it would block legitimate robo-calls such as bank/cc fraud prevention systems (possibly less of an issue if you use a smartphone app to confirm payments).

I have used Fritz!boxes for years. I have three DECT phones connected to my 4060, and I have a VOIP number/contract with AAISP.

You can block specific numbers via the Fritz!box and/or you can set up the 5 answering machines to accept calls. For example, I have one answer machine set up to automatically answer calls from unknown numbers. I have concluded that if the unknown caller is genuine he/she will leave a message. Scam callers tend not to bother. The system works well.
