Advice for a VOIP noob

[link to this post]

Hi all.

I am stuck on an EOL with a basic broadband connection. No fibre here.

Currently have a FritzBox 7530 from Zen.

I run a small business from home and wish to set up a VOIP line. I am new to this but I am hoping that I can order a simple DECT phone from Gigaset or the like, subscribe to VOIP provider, get a local number, pair up the DECT phone to the Fritzbox and make both incoming and outgoing calls from said number and have answer phone messages sent via email.

Yes we do have an analogue phone line but I do not wish to use it for reasons I will not bore you with,

Is this possible or have I misuuderstood what VOIP is and what the Fritzbox can do?

If this is all doable is anyone able to point me in the direction of a good VOIP provider?

Many thanks

Basic DECT functions will work for sure - but it all works a hell of a lot more slickly if you buy a Fritz Fon handset. Happily using a 7590 with A&A voice (was SIPgate before) - it just works™

I have been using Gigaset DECT phones with a Fritzbox for many years now. The two go very well together. The compatibility is quite good, well beyond just basic functions, so I am not sure whether it is worth splashing out for a Fritz DECT phone

You can have up to six DECT phones registered on the Fritzbox and you can make up to three concurrent calls.

WRT VoIP providers. I am using A&A for inbound and Freevoipdeal for outbound, but you could as well use A&A for both in and outbound.

Make sure that it is a compatible DECT phone as not all DECT phones will connect to a Fritz!Box.

I use my fritz 7530 as a DECT base station for Panasonic handstations, also have an analogue phone plugged into the FON socket . All works fine with A&A
Also have Acrobits Softphone on my mobiles , well worth the few pounds.
