DECT from BT

[link to this post]

I've had an email from BT saying that our landline is being changed to DECT.

Said email instructs us to plug the phone into the green socket on the router on the appointed day

However, our BT router does not have a green socket.

Call BT and explain the situation. They should send you a suitable router. Alternatively move to an ISP such as A&A who could well be more helpful.

If it actually says DECT then you should check its not a fradulent email, as DECT is the technology for cordless handsets in the home, not the line.

If you are with BT or EE for your fixed line phone and broadband, they normally use the term “Digital Voice”.

You may find a new router arrives automatically.

I went through this too earlier this year. As was mentioned, the line is not changing to "DECT", that is only for your cordless handsets, if you have them already.

The copper wire landlines are being phased out "over the next year", but the deadline has moved several times already. Your future connection will be via VoIP (internet based calls), which some providers will integrate in to their provided router, i.e. BT and Sky, or you need to move to a new VoIP provider and enable your handsets via an adapter to connect.

Either way, you can normally keep your landline number.
