Routers with analogue ports and phones with Truecall

[link to this post]

Does anyone have any recent experience with VOIP and BT (8600, 4600, 2600) Truecall/Call Guardian analogue phones for these providers and analogue telephone port routers?

Zen / Frtiz 7530 AX
AA / Technicolor DGA4135

I'm aware of issues with Zen re V8.00, Zen broke my Truecall and no trousers etc. I've also seen posts about AA performance. Some of the posts have been quiet so I want to know if the problem has been resolved.

My parents are with BT(FTTP/DV) and it looks like there is better value (and probably service) from Zen/AA. Also Zen/AA will allow us to split VOIP away without terminating the FTTP. Plus we will be able to use Acrobits as well.

If issues do exist then I could always use a HT801 which does seem to play nicely with Truecall/Call Guardian phones.

I am not sure whether there is much point in plugging a Truecall device into an analogue phone port of a Fritzbox.
Frittzbox allows you to set up all sorts of call blocking, or divert unknown/unanted callers to built in answerphone.
Why spend £110 on a call blocker alone if you can get a second hand 7530 for a lot less (you don't need the AX version unless you want WiFi6).
The FB is able to detect SIN227 Caller ID on an incoming analogue line, but I am not sure whether it will convert incoming VoIP CLI into SIN227 for presentation on the analogue phone port, so Truecall may not work behind a FB.
I have a 7590 which works well with A&A VoIP (and others).

??? I don't think that the Fritzbox does caller challenge nor relays the response. Those are the key elements of Truecall and Call Guardian.

Thanks for all the replies.

My parents have Truecall built into the BT phone so no extra cost and it does have the "receptionist" capability which means there is the possibility for a unknown contact to make contact instead of being completely blocked.

@iannewson. It's good to hear the DGA4135 plays nicely with the BT Truecall 8610 and VOIP from A&A. Fritz users have reported issues: 1) When someone leaves a message the answerphone on the BT continues to record for around 30 seconds. 2) Also when an unknown caller is challenged by the Truecall receptionist and attempts to announce themselves, if the caller disconnects before the called party decides on the action (accept/block/voicemail etc) the BT continues to ring. Have you experienced these issues?

I am a fan of Fritz!boxes. For unknown callers, I have configured my 4060 to divert calls to one of the 5 built in answer machines. Genuine callers will leave a message. Spammers etc don’t bother. I get an alert on my phone for all calls and messages.

Despite emailing Zen, AVM and TruCall, there doesn't seem to be a solution yet.

I think the issue is then the AVN Fritz!Box doesn't communicate with the UK POTS (?) system that answerphones use.

I am glad to hear that TruCall BT phones work well with AA's VOIP as we are considering using them for the phone line and A N Other for fibre internet when we eventually get FTTP.
