BT Business Cloud Voice and Cisco ATA 192 setup?

[link to this post]

Hi,
I switched over to BT Business Cloud Voice from the old line. I had already tested my equipment with my old Linksys PAPT2 voip adapter with my old sipgate number to test that it all worked.

After I the line was switched over, I thought I could plug my existing cordless phone into the back of the BT Business Hub 2 as there is a socket there but that didn't work.

After searching around, I found that BT have a set up page for a Cisco ATA 192 so I bought one from ebay and plugged it in.

After Googling how to access the device and add it to my lan, I saw that I need a whole load of settings.

I cannot find these settings anywhere and BT have been pretty useless. I posted in the forum, asked on chat - chat appears to be for sales only.

Does anyone have the settings I need? Is there a technical support number for BT to get the settings?

Thanks.

Resi voice of course is locked down to the router, but business is OK.

This might help…

What particular settings do you need to know?

By the looks of it I need loads of settings or a config file.
Overkill for adding a cordless set and an old alarm - it's not an advanced VOIP system smile

After finally getting through to Cloud Voice Express support chat after 1hr, they said they won't help as I purchased from Ebay,

I had to buy direct from them and pay £88+vat and I will get free engineer setup.
Waste of time when I could set up manually if I had the settings but let's see what happens.
Edit: actually it is £88 inc VAT and it is a BTCV Phone Adaptor ATA 191 - 2 Port not a 192 adapter - not sure what the difference is.

Do you have any settings within the Cloud Voice portal to add a phone device? You might be able to enter the MAC of the adapter you have and let it auto provision.

10 years ago I gave Voipfone remote access to my Cisco SPA112 and they got it to work.

A VOIP ISP such as A&A might help you. Calls may well be cheaper than BT.

If the OP has already signed a (business) contract with BT, then the gee-gee's may have bolted on this...

As much as it pains me to say it in a way; may actually be cheaper, faster and less headaches in the long run (for the sake of £88) to buy the box from BT and get them to provision and do any remote setup to get it all working.

Put yours back on fleabay if the seller wont accept returns.

If they sold it to me during the purchase process, I would have saved myself a week of hassle trying to get it working.
I will probably sell the Cisco I bought off ebay but I want to copy over the settings first from the new one just to see how complicated it is to get it working.

Yes, I had to sign a 2 year contract with BT, unlimited calls iaddon for about £8 per month.

I was waiting for over 2 years to get Community Fibre or Hyperoptic. Both started work and posted coming soon leaflets, neither followed through which is really disappointing.

I was out of contract but stuck with BT for several years, I was paying approx. £125 a month for a phone line and 50Mb FTC broadband.

I think the BT Business Cloud Voice Express is locked down to their devices.

I cannot manually add a phone or device that is not purchased directly from them,

It has to be added via the CVE dashboard and it uses the MAC code.

I just saw my ATA 191 that I bought from BT appear before my engineer visit tomorrow, I assigned it and now I cannot login with default admin credentials.

All you need is the proxy User ID and password
all other ids can be left as default.
user id needs to be entered in the AUTH ID as well but the first picture page will fill that in for you.

whether BT will give you these details is another question
the ATA191 they sent you has probably had its settings changed so you cannot login and get the details you need.

Only BT can give you the details as they are linked to your account

My "engineer visit" is today 8-1.
It appears that the provisioning has been completed remotely as my alarm and old cordless phones are working.

I cannot get into the ATA191 to see the settings which is a bit of a pain as I paid for the device, it is not bundled with the contract as with the voip Yealink phone.

I will have to ask BT to give me the details but I bet they won't.

I did backup the initial config file when I got the device with plenty of BT URLs. Don't know if it will be any good as the mac code of the new 191 is tied to the CVE account.

I might sell the 192 or keep it and try on another network.

Engineer just attended and said I can't login to the device as everything has to go via BT.
He didn't do anything as I already set everything up.

Given its BT, I’m not at all surprised it’s all locked down and they won’t give you any details.

The ATA on boot will login to the BT cloud and download any settings to configure it automatically the engineers know nothing about the settings.

Most likely.
When I purchased my own ATA 192 I had to google how to access the device, login and manually change the settings to add it to my network. The 191 I just plugged it and added to my account on the day of the visit and it was working.

I do want to ask BT how I can change the ring delay as the phones connected to the ATA are delayed by 2 seconds. No biggie but annoying.

There is a ring delay with voip as its the way the call is set up being internet based when you dial the number it then sets up the path (unlike a phyiscal phone which has a static path) the voip phone doesnt so you then get a delay think it would be better if you didnt get the ringing tone on the phone until the phone was actually ringing but.
