Dead Yealink W73H Handset?

[link to this post]

I have a totally unresponsive Yealink W73H handset. The screen is blank and it doesn't respond when putting it into its charging unit.

Is there anything I can do other than replace?

As Taras pointed out it is likely to be the battery as dect phone batteries only tend to last about 2 to 3 years due to the constant trickle charging.

It may not help you as you probably already have other Yearlink systems and want to stay with Yearlink but it may help others who want to set up a VOIP Phone system as it is not just the initial cost and performance that should be considered when choosing phones but it is also the periodic cost, (about every 2 to 3 years), needed to replace the batteries.

Upon Googling; the replacement batteries for the W73H seem to cost over £15.00 each and my Gigaset C575a phones, (which use two AAA rechargeable batteries per phone), costs less than £1.00 per phone, (for higher MAH spec Batteries than the original), which over a 10 year period would be a considerable cost saving.

As the saying goes: Look after the pennies, etc...

Thanks, Taras and Fido for your comments.

I've swapped batteries with the other handset and the other handset is perfectly happy with the battery from the 'dead' handset. Similarly the other handset works in both charging stations and the 'dead' handset is unresponsive in both.

I'm as certain as I can be that it is a dead handset and Fido's comments about the cost of ownership are ringing true. Never mind the cost of spare batteries, I think I'm looking at the cost of a replacement handset.

I have an intense dislike of the keypads on the Gigaset handsets, which was one of the reasons for going with Yealink in the first place. Looking like I took the expensive option!

Someone on reddit had the same problem. Turned out to be a blown capacitor.

I found that comment on Reddit after I posted. A bit beyond my capabilities, so it looks like a new handset is on the cards.
